DJ Shagz has been spinning records for over 12 years in the Greater Toronto Area (yes, in Canada!), playing gigs of all sizes and colours (crowds from 2 to 2000, CD release parties, benefit gigs, DJ workshops, etc.). He's one of the most professional non-pro DJs I've encountered, his mixes are always programmed with great detail and he never releases a mix he's not completely happy with. I've seen him open for numerous bands, and he's known to support many charities around the city. He's played gigs with The Crystal Method before, and is a teacher at the Off Centre DJ School in Toronto.

He's spun numerous genres over the years, but these days mostly plays breaks, house, funk/soul/jazz, hip hop, electro/progressive house, and a little bit of drum and bass (can you say seriously versatile?!). After a 2 year hiatus he's now looking to get back into gigging regularly. He plans a relaunch of his website, DJShagz.com, and will no doubt start throwing parties around the city to bring in the summer, all while digging deeper into Serato and Ableton to expand his DJ skills. The future will see him continuing to share his knowledge and passion with his students, and growing in his relationship with Jesus and his involvement in his local church community.

  1. Hey may be my big brother, but that's not the reason I love his mixes! Even though some of our musical tastes overlap, it wasn't always like that. He and I couldn't have been on more opposite sides of the musical spectrum. In our younger years as I grew into punk (oddly enough, was introduced to me by my brother) and he grew into Electronica, which for the longest time I did not believe was actually credible music. Time has passed and as I said above our tastes now overlap. So this comment is for those out there who have been scared to get into any form of electonic music for fear of losing credibility, this is a fantasic mix to ease a rocker into the genre and wet your appetite for more. Some really great tunes that DJ Shagz has been able to meld together into one seamless flow of music. To quote Alec Baldwin as Tony Bennett, "Great, great, great, great, great, great, guy!" Great, great, great, great, great, great stuff!
  2. Note really my complete taste of music. But with that being said this was a well put togther mix. Very funkie. Kinda james brownish. Tight flow. Works well for what it is. I personaly like a bit more hard house, funkie house. Niece to hear jpuddy voice. But all in all enjoyed the mix while truing my spokes on the bmx last night. God bless, keep up the tight work.

Undiscovered? Certainly. Untapped? Definitely. Raw talent? Possibly. J Puddy has been spinning a blend of trance and progressive music since 2004. Living in Toronto he was a member of the Toronto Groove Collective, playing many gigs around the city and opening a concert for Delirious in 2006. Since moving to Europe he's played at Dynamite Music festival in Helsinki, and Sencity 2009, among other gigs. People frequently describe his DJ sets as "Pretty good","Not quite what we were expecting", and "That music you were playing, that's called techno, right?"
