This is the latest installment from N*Soul’s Nitro Praise series and has been widely speculated about and was highly touted by the label. We were promised top-notch production and mastering as well as a “better-than-ever” sound. How did they deliver and what is the final word? Let’s explore …

The first track is pleasant and imaginatively written and sung Breathe and is probably my personal favorite. John Torres is an excellent vocalist and makes the track live apart from its famous beginnings in Praise and Worship. I like the cohesive nature of the track as all the elements come together to do it justice as a dance/worship number. I can definitely use this track in a Worship format. The next track turned me off completely Better Is One Day as it tried to be up-tempo and full of energy and came off as just bad songwriting in general. The third track, God of Wonders is good, and don’t get me wrong, but I’ve heard better remakes right here on Tastyfresh. Worthy of mention and definitely useable but not written at a level that particularly impresses these jaded ears. The rest Here I Am To Worship , We Fall Down , Heart of Worship and Forever do not do much to solidify or redeem the lackluster nature of the release so I won’t go into detail.

The promised legendary mastering, editing and so on can’t save the substandard songwriting and remixing of these worship tunes and I can’t therefore give this release any higher than 6.0 out of 10. I hope that N*Soul will tap into more of the current culture of dance music and come up with a more contemporary and club-friendly sound on its next go-round. The Youth Groups may go ga-ga over this but as a DJ I’m left at a loss.
