This is something I waited WEEKS to get in my clammy little fingers and listen to. I ordered through Flaming Fish in Canada and it does take a while to get to our little island paradise here in the South Pacific. Ah well, delayed gratification can be a good thing.

This is a very important album as it bridges the styles of Gothic and Trip-Hop in convincing fashion. You may not know this, but Trip-Hop has ALL the ladies on the floor when we spin it at Noctuary (www.thenoctuary.com) in Waikiki. To bridge the two styles is very striking and indeed lovely to hear. The soft airy vocals, combined with imaginative electronic programming create a very mystical soundscape that will enthrall the listener as well as (hopefully!) get them on the dance floor.

The best tracks are right up front Stay, Idyll, Reveal, & Desideratum with “Idyll” as the strongest track by far. Michelle’s angelic vocals pleading against Jesse’s great synth work and drum programming create the “feel” we desire on the dance floor and as Dj’s. Great lyrics too which show strong faith amidst despair and struggle. Not something I can play in church (too spooky I’m told) but I will try it out next time I spin at Noctuary.

The remaining tracks Hopeful, Lay Down, Calling, Complex, Lullaby and Drown fall short of the promise shown in the beginning but this is a self-released first album and it’s not all bad at all. I scored it a bit low (7.0) but I had to score it as an album despite its shining promise in some tracks. If you don’t know the genre, go to Myspace.com and check out their webpage with song clips and info. Otherwise, go to www.evermusic.net and get the skinny there. I can’t wait for the sequel!
