Chris' Take:

French producer Melchyor A brings us a nice dose of classic deep house with his 4-track EP, The Grooveymen. It starts off with a simple track titled, "Memories (Disko Flavor Mix)", which could possibly have been given more to the musical side. “Memories” establishes its deep house vibe with a sweet, thick kick and some James Brown horn stabs. After about a minute, the bass line comes in and you can really feel things beginning to pick up. The only problem that I see is that the track really doesn't develop into much more than a looped bassline, a very nice sax part, and a few repeating samples. Aside from that, it's a nice track to get this EP started.

"The Beat Goes On (Main Mix)" and "Believe (Main Loungey Mix)" are pretty standard deep house tracks. There's nothing really to point out, either good or bad. They both are sufficient if you need a quick track to drop in your set and you just happen to be playing deep house. They'll get the job done.

The last track, which also happens to be the title track, "The Grooveymen (Grooveymain Mix)", steps the whole energy level of this EP up a notch. It has a whole different drive to it. From the hi-hat action, to the bassline, to the chords... everything about this track is simply better than the previous three tracks. This track just has "party people on the dance floor" written all over it.

Overall, this is a pretty solid release. It lacks in originality in some spots, but somehow the tracks work well enough to keep their momentum. It's worth a listen.
