The Vitals:Label: Deeplife Records Factor Scores:Production Quality: 8.5 Chris' Take:The new Brazilian duo, Major Pax, is making some major waves right now. Quick off the heels of their stellar single, "Raising Faith", Major Pax brings The Second Coming EP. This offering contains 4 tracks of amazing melodies and ferocious beats. Technically, this is categorized as trance, but I hear many influences, one in particular being electro house. I fell deeply in love with this release upon first listen. It all starts off with the title track "The Second Coming". Things are nicely set into motion from the very beginning. There is nothing that slows this track down or makes it seem slightly under average. The vocal sample of "King of Kings and Lord of Lords" flows well with the beat all the way till the very end of the track. Next up is "Bliss Out". I am not sure what the title is supposed to mean, but the track is full of some musical dance floor bliss. Its bubbling bassline carries the flow along very nicely all the way up to its beautiful breakdown that is reminiscent of track classics from the late 90's while maintaining a new approach. "Reaction" is the track that will generate a major reaction from the audience when this is played properly in the clubs. This is how you blur the lines properly. Part trance, part breaks, part electro, part retro…. This very well could be the most perfect track I have heard in a very long time. Wrapping up this EP is "Noisy Generation". Holy wow, Batman! I take it back. This very well could be the most perfect track ever. It starts off as any normal dance track does. Kick beat, percussion, bass stab, hi hat, bassline. Then it switches slightly, and you hear the famous "funky drummer sample" in the mix with some Florida breaks thrown in, and then it switches back to a track vibe. The main melody is a ferocious synth lead that sweeps in and takes control of the entire track. As it moves, the bass moves, the drums move, the entire flow of the track is under complete control of the synth lead. Shortly later, the breaks element returns giving this track a very fun groove. There is not enough that can be said for this last track. All I can say at this point is Major Pax is my new addiction. Seriously. The Second Coming is a release that shows no weakness ever. Every track is great and keeps getting better. Don't believe me? Head over to beatport.com and buy it. |
