Brian’s Take:

Next Dimension presents Tiago AZ's new deep house EP entitled The Other Side of the Moon. Generally when it comes to the style of deep house, it takes quite a bit to impress me. I'll admit I was much more impressed than I initially thought I would be.

The first of the two tracks, "Desert Of My Soul", lays down a very enticing atmosphere for the listener. A slow, ambient opening eases you into the track, whose peak leaves you feeling relaxed whether you want to be or not. A solid mastering job tops the track off; however, a couple things bothered me. The main percussion was not nearly powerful enough to match the energy of the rest of the song, and the tranquility of the opening two minutes are brazenly interrupted by a series of shamelessly obnoxious vocal samples. Regardless, "Desert Of My Soul" was nothing short of a smooth, enjoyable piece.

"Eternal Waves", the second track of the EP, seemed to make up for what I felt its predecessor lacked. This was, ultimately, a much stronger and more solid line of percussion. Once again, the vibe is set with some carefully toned moods, and the instruments begin to complement each other. An intoxicatingly calm bassline, a tribal loop, and the most exotic of instruments to include in a house song: the xylophone.

In closing, this release is nothing legendary, but it would be a good listen for a lot of people. I would imagine most will like this if they have had a long history of favoring deep house. However, it should also appeal to many general house/dance fans, so be sure to give it a listen.
