Brian’s Take:

Up-and-coming digital tech house label Xeton presents the two-track "Q106EP" from the label's owners: Dom Kane and Nic Carrington. The first track, "Something German Sir!", is a chunky, electro house adventure. Subtly opening with a simple percussion section and a minimal low end, the tune slowly evolves into a repetitive, yet groovin' ride. "Midi Robots", the second piece of the EP, was close to the same. Though Kane and Carrington threw in a few surprises here and there, it for the most part carried the same theme as track one: a driving bassline and a cheap melodic high end.

As a listener, one can count on this EP for a quick groove. As a DJ, either one of its tunes can be employed as a quick transitional track. It has its moments, but overall this release isn't very original. Kane and Carrington definitely laid down some solid production for this one, but the tracks simply don't seem creative and don't meet a satisfying level of entertainment. Though any tech house or electro DJ/listener should give these a try, I can't promise that they'll last long in anyone's library.
