Greg Chin is more than the self-proclaimed "biggest Depeche Mode fan." He also is the owner of Substance Recordings and is Miami-based recording artist, DJ, and producer Stryke. Stryke's musical training began in his native Kingston, Jamaica when he started playing classical piano at the age of 4. At 10, he began composing. After moving to Miami with his family in the early 1980s and discovering bands like Depeche Mode and New Order, Stryke found his love for electronic music. He purchased his first synthesizer when he was 12. By the age of 14, he was DJing to make money so that he could buy more synthesizer equipment. The first release by Stryke came out in 1994: the mix CD United State of Ambience, Vol. 2 from Moonshine Music. Three years later, Reality Base, Stryke's first full-length album, was released by Adrenalin Records. Stryke and fellow artist Tabitha Byng partnered together in the early 2000s to form Ad Finem. The duo produced numerous releases and found themselves successful on the Billboard charts. Recognition of Stryke's talents in 2004 included the Murk track "Time", on which Stryke did guest vocals, hitting #1 in the US and him being asked to be the official DJ for the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards in Miami. In June of 2005, Stryke—along with DJ Craze—began his residency at the newly opened Nocturnal club in downtown Miami. The following fall, Stryke played at Nocturnal's "All Stars" event on October 15. Stryke remains busy in 2006. He is writing the musical score for the opening of the Miami Performing Arts Center, which is scheduled for October, and is working on other projects, including new ambient material for John Beltran's Sol Junkie label.
