Brian's Take:

Defected Records presents the spectacularly funky 3 Disc house mix collection "Defected In The House Miami '06".

Disc one (Sunset) opens with an intoxicating 30-second acapella, after which Dumore flips on the dance floor switch with a track from Ashley Beedle's side project the "London Heavy Disco Revue". At this point one would be well advised to find a beach, obtain one's tropical drink of choice and let the music take over. On disc one alone Dumore provides over an hour of mind-cooling, soul-relaxing house beats. Sunset's also a gold mine for smooth, vocal gems (not to mention exceptional mixing).

As for disc two (Sundown), all the factors from disc one remain applicable. Dumore keeps the funk rolling, yet with a noticeably more night-time vibe. Track after track, Dumore keeps the strings heavy and the vocals light. Towards the peak time of the disc, he even throws a slight hint of acid into the mix, before throwing down some of the thickest, funkiest vibe the house genre has seen all year.

Closing the collection, disc three (Sunrise) turns down the energy and brings the afterparty to the listener. Despite the chill factor, Dumore continues to solidly deliver. By halfway he starts to throw a little tech house in to the mix, persisting until the end of the disc. A lot of Sunrise sports some retro vibe, creating an undeniably great atmosphere for a closing set.

It can't be said that this collection holds everything a house lover could ever need, as these mixes tend to keep it on the deep/chill side. Anyone who likes funky dance music at all should check this out, nonetheless. The Sunset disc plays a lot of what I would call "the smooth jazz of house", but this isn't necessarily a bad thing for everyone; only for those who aren't into such deep house. In short this collection should be given a shot by anyone ready to take a funky vacation.
