Bio by heldbywill. Used by permission.

heldbywill is Dan Bartow - born in Canton, Ohio in 1979. From the day Dan was born, he was surrounded by musicians. His mother taught him to play guitar at the age of 14, and after learning to play guitar, he quickly learned to play the bass guitar and drums as well. At the age of 16, he was recruited into the popular Northeast Ohio straightedge hardcore band bipolar. While playing bass guitar for bipolar, Dan played gigs with a number of metal and hardcore acts, including Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse, The Misfits, and many more.

In 1998, Dan left bipolar to embark on his own musical. In 2000, Dan formed heldbywill as an outlet for his pent-up musical aggression. Shortly after, he formed the Electronic Spirit Crew with DJ Glow, Dunamis, and DJ YoYo, throwing underground parties in warehouses and on college campuses.

heldbywill's sound started out as upbeat epic trance but, over the course of five years, turned to psychedelic trance and industrial mayhem. There was just no escaping his roots in the hardcore and metal scene. heldbywill's sound is heavy with massive elements of headbobbing groove.

In 2004, heldbywill teamed up with Sheltershed in the studio to produce “Submersible”, a track that was released on the Sheltershed CD “Hx”. In the summer of 2005, HBW shared the stage with Sheltershed in a Live PA performance at the Cornerstone festival alongside Andy Hunter, Davo, Hypostatic, DJ Yoyo, Dunamis, and many other well-known electronic musicians.
