Summary:

Intec presents an excellent new EP from Sébastien Léger, entitled "Electric". The first of the two songs "Lunar" opens with a seemingly meek drum kit. By the time the first synth came in (a sharp bass line), I predicted a mediocre song was developing. The early moments sounded like they weren't quite ready to be a song yet. Instead, they unwrapped into a rapidly improving tune. It progressed slowly, but this was simply a mechanism to build tension. Finally the full-fledged hook is unveiled around 2:30 and it is simply amazing. Though the hook is simply an unfiltered version of the original synths, it is an incredible moment. Throughout the song there is not much variation, but I don't think it needs any more than it has. It does astonishing things with a few simple synth lines. With a style like this it is very easy to blow it while trying to be "repetitive with style". Sébastien Léger on the other hand swung a hole in one on this one, my personal favorite of the two.

"Electric", the title song off the EP was definitely a change of pace. Equally as well produced, it used the same general genre, but from a different angle than "Lunar". The drum kit was very similar to the first track, but it sounded great regardless. The track features an almost funky base line, along with a great upper end. This song, as opposed to "Lunar", has a much darker sound. Sébastien Léger pulled it off very nicely. Don't miss this dynamite new EP off Intec Records. If you're a fan of techno or electro you should like at least one of the two songs on here.

Factor Scores:

Production Quality: 8.0

There is great production here quality from Sébastien Léger. Both of the songs executed tight mastering, crack production, and rad form. Not all electro style techno tracks have such well-done musicality in them. This was a very successful area of the EP, but definitely not the only successful aspect.

Programming & Arrangement: 7.0

Though the production and entertainment levels were high, the programming and arrangement on this record were not as creative as they could've been. There's always an issue with electro and techno of crossing the line between "rigid by style" and "rigid by accident." Of course combined with the quality of every other angle of this EP this issue is hardly noticeable.

Entertainment Quality: 9.0

Both of these new tracks are incredibly entertaining. I've been listening to them over and over, and found that they haven't gotten old yet and won't for a long time. If I were forced to pick one as more entertaining, it would have to be "Lunar," but only by a miniscule interval.

Total: 8.0 – Great

Intec has done it again, bringing us this great new EP from Sébastien Léger. The "Electric EP" is going to work wonders for the label, and for any dance floor experiencing either of these tracks. This record is not to be missed by either those who would normally listen to techno and electro, and those who would not.

Brian's Take:

This record will be rotating through my play lists for quite some time. Personally I think this should be the "Lunar EP", meaning obviously that the A Side "Lunar" was my favorite. Don't get me wrong, "Electric" was just as well made, simply not as much my style. At the end of the day both tracks are essential and should not go unheard.
