House Mix – John Digweed – “Fabric 20” – Fabric Records – 2004 – Score: 5

I bought this mix hoping to hear some great new House from a “semi”-famous DJ. I don’t know a lot about John as far as his mixing skills or dance floor sensibilities but I do know something about his taste in music. I really bought the disc after hearing the first track which is Pete Moss’ ”Strive To Live”(16b mix). It’s a great track of which I have the original and love. The remix doesn’t make enough use of the vocal in my opinion but manages to sound good anyway.

In my mind, I hoped that the rest of the mix would be on par with the first track but that is not the case, hence the low score. Other artists included are Adam Johnson “Traber”, Repair “Forgive and Forget”, DJ Rasoul “True Science” and others of which I have no recognition. The mix meanders through some down-tempo house tracks and does little to engage the listener or convince them of John’s ability to pick quality tracks. I was very disappointed but can use the first track to spin with so not all is lost. If John comes to Honolulu, you can bet I’ll be elsewhere as I am not a new fan. Better luck next time John.
