This is the third article in a series uncovering the various methods to the madness of the live performance of electronic music. Previous entries in this series have dealt with analog hardware and repeater setups, as well as sequencer-based and software/hardware hybrid setups. As the different techniques for live performance are examined, a common theme has been explored, the idea of control – control of sound, and control of technology. The series now concludes with an examination of what is quickly becoming the most recognizable format for live electronic music – the laptop. With the advent of Max/MSP, Ableton Live and tabletop fader boxes has come the next revolution in live electronic performance. |

So between our normal events and Cornerstone 2005 I have seen my fair share of promo packets and I have noticed several trends. Promo packets do land you the gig and here are some pointers to help you in having the best promo packet out there. |

In the past, both N*Soul Records and MYX Records have run the Dance Club. This year, the club is under new management by a group of veterans from Cincinnati, Ohio. For the past three years the crew of The Underground have hosted monthly club events and two years ago they provided the lights for the Dance Barn. We recently had a chance to sit down with both Chris Human and Cindy Tucker to talk about both the Underground and the changes at the Dance Barn and it looks like the changes being made will be worth it. |

Shelby Callaway always had a passion for music, from making beats and theme songs as a kid to discovering Propellerheads Rebirth in high school and producing his first independent album. Over the following 2 years Shelby picked up a pair of CDJ-100's and a DJM-300 mixer and practiced as much as humanly possible. He spun a few school dances with the high school production company and became addicted to mixing. |
