I have been thinking about a lot of things lately and I think a lot of my stress may be eliminated if I let a lot of things go and move on with my life.

OK I have made a decision. God has really helped me to understand a lot of things this past week and the most important thing He taught me is that I need to not let go of the things that bring me joy, but to let go of the things that bring me pain.

Therefore, I am letting go of two things:

1. Producing. The only real reason I was giving it a go is because everybody says that if you want to make it as a DJ, you need to produce your own tracks. That can't be entirely true. There has to be plenty of DJ's who are successful and all they do is bring a good show when they spin live. Besides, I'm not any good. Well if this was 1998, I'd be good.    Anyway, I just never had the heart or the time to commit to writing tracks. I'm way too busy. I'm not saying I won't ever do anything again, I'm just saying that I'm not gonna focus on it anymore.

2. Expectations. Rather GREAT Expectations. I know I'm a good DJ. I used to have my doubts, but I am finding more people who credit me for track selection and flow a LOT more these days. I'm just not gonna let my mind get all caught up in the thoughts that no one is interested just because I get no response to my mixsets and promotional posts. It really just doesn't matter. I get joy from doing the mix, not from people's (lack of) response. My phones may not be ringing and I may not be having a steady line-up of gigs, but so what. I'd love for that to be the case, but if it never happens, it doesn't really matter. God loves me and I'm a good DJ.

So there ya go.

I'm glad you were able to distinguish what those things were.

You know, I think there's more show opportunities available by teaming up with people and organizations that can have a common vision or goal.

Over here there's a sort of community outreach program started by our local Centricity Records label.  They started something called Voices In The Valley which looks for gigs that other people are setting up and helps to get the word spread, and also sets up gigs of their own and finds artists who want to be involved.  The guy who heads this up is a good friend of mine who used to be really into the christian dance music scene as a promoter and occasional dj.  The name Tim Schmekel might ring a bell for some here on tastyfresh since he was one who recommended that I get on here a while back.  He started his own raves a couple of times before, and when he found out I was able to dj, he wanted to set up a rave through Voices In The Valley.  I think you remember when I had asked if you could come and dj for it..  Anyway, it didn't work out at the time, but it may very well be coming up as a major topic again.  I think we can set up little shows of our own, and team up with people like Voices In The Valley and set up bigger ones that have funding through various channels and organizations.

Since you're still going to dj, when this rave topic comes about again, I'm going to do everything I can to recommend you as one of the featured djs and find the funding to pay you well for your time and travel expenses.  If that one goes well, then I might start doing regular raves similar to that one.

Just a thought though, ..I think I'd like to do raves with more of a worship element to them similar to what Club Worship has going on.

Anyways, I'm glad you're still in the scene for now.
