A little over a year ago i bought a 2000 Audi A4... It was (and still is) in beautiful condition, low miles, its loaded, and the seller had just the right price. the owner also said that all scheduled maintenance had been done on time. I felt good about all of this.
6 months down the road I started to have some minor little problems, nothing big. Then strange electrical problems one after the other, after the other and so on.
then Friday driving home there was an unforgetable feeling, something major broke... the car rolled gently to a stop and wouldnt start for the world.
I had it towed to a trusty (and Christian) auto mechanic.
News on monday... the timing belt broke while i was driving... Shocked
News as of 12:00pm today after looking things over and talking with a few different Audi specialists there is a 95+% chance that the engine is shot and has to be replaced...  Angry . Im looking at about $6500 to replace the engine. Thats almost half of what i owe on the whole car.
In almost every other instance that this has happened engine replacement had to be done, but in the 5% that you dont it still causes $2000 - $3000 in damages... all valves bend and 1 to 4 pistions crack. Why someone would make a car that would break like this... i dont know. I always heared good things about Audi and did my share of research before buying the car.
Please pray for me in this situation. Pray for my sanity!!! I dont know what im going to do.
I have faith Ill get thru, Its just going to be a bumpy ride. Praise God!

That's too bad, I feel for ya.

But I wouldn't blame Audi! If you break a timing belt on any car, it's baaaaad news. Timing belts generally are replaced at about 65,000 miles +/- depending on the make. How many miles are on the car?

humm... i dont really blame Audi... thats just alot of cash! i can really point the finget at anyone.
theres about 87k miles on it now. When i was in the process of buying the car i asked the guy if he had replaced the timing belt at 60k miles and he said yes... guess that was a lie, just like when he told me that it had never been wrecked... only to find out that it has had body work done to it on both passenger side doors... but what can you do? maybe he did have it changed and it was a faulty belt, or maybe... who knows... my mom found some used engines with warrantys online for a couple grand cheeper...

Praide God my parents got a new car last week! So thank you God that there is an extra vehicle in the family just when we need one.

I had the same thing happen to me. No one to blame but me. Embarrassed Learned my lesson the expensive way. I was on quite a streak for a while: blew the lawn tractor engine by not putting in enough oil when I changed it, flooded two rooms in our house when I failed to re-attach the washing machine drainage hose properly, hit a deer with my car, blew up the car engine as I already mentioned.... Seems like there was more, but I can't remember right now. All of this was within less than a year.

Anyway, sorry, that happened, man. Will be praying that it'll somehow come in cheaper than you're expecting.

Well, if you had asked specifically about the belt and they said they replaced it, shame on them. In fact, if I were you, I'd get that belt, take it to a third party and ask them how many miles they would estimate there to be on it.

If they say it's an old belt, I'd sue the people who sold you the car. That's a big chunk of change. I'm not big on suing people but if they lied to you and you can prove it, I would do it. My 3 cents!

I wouldnt sue, just get em to make it right, at least let them pay for the engine and repair bill if it turns out that he lied.

thats why i thank God I have two cars

Bump^^.   Man that is too mesed up.  The only way I would buy a audi is if I was independently wealthy.  I would say if you ever need to buy another car, the Honda civic I have has 170 thousand on it and all I had to have done was schd. maintence  a muffler.  We had boot's and half shafts replaced but that is more those hidden drops coming out of fast food or the gas station.  I will keep you in prayer.  I failed to re-attach the washing machine drainage hose properly Quote from godlovesmagaggots.  I kinda did that where I left somthing in the drainage basen but my wife caught it quick enough, only prob. was their was water all over the basment.  But we managed to get it all cleaned up 2 times.

i cant believe I didnt catch that, but yeah, on most cars its called the timing chain.  yeah its a pain, I replaced just the cover on my truck to a polished aluminum for appearance and that took awhile.

hey, how much for the civic?  year? color? automatic or manual?

51LV3R, thanks to my wife being super supportive in times where she really could've trashed me, we've been able to laugh about it ourselves. I'm glad it gave you a little laugh. That was my intent. That and to show support. Will keep praying.

I REALLY gotta check my chain. at least... I THINK it's a chain. Hopefully it's a belt though. I'm at almost 200k with my olds and it has NEVER been replaced.
