Greetings all,

I am working on a website for christian DJ's. There used to be a directory on Championscrew but it was very limited and a simple flat file.

This will be a database driven directory.  The purpose of the site is two-fold.

I. To provide a means for Christian DJs to find each other, assisting in the organization and co-ordinating of events.

II. To provide a means for the consumer to find a christian DJ that meets their specific needs.

The site will provide a searchable directory. One that will go beyond merely searching for a name, rather, it will allow you filter that search on a variety of criteria. Including searching by performance type (club, wedding, etc), music styles (hip-hop, trance, ebm, synthpop, etc).  I am also going to provide the means to search for all DJs within "x miles" via ZIP code. I believe this will be quite useful both to DJs and consumers.

Hey, I may love Frankie Vibe and think he does a great job spinning. But he's probably NOT who I'm looking to bring in for a dark rave.

Mock-up
http://www.easternstorm.net/djdb/djdbmockup.html

The site will also allow for the inclusion of equipment. I believe this is important for us when planning events.  Some of us have resources that we can help others with.  (ie: I own a 3,000 watt Mackie system and a full mobile lighting rig. If someone was looking to do an event in the PA/MD area, I'd be a good person for them to get in touch with.)

I've also tried to include aspects relevant to the christian scene such as music type (secular or christian) as well as a brief testimony. I believe this is an important aspect to include.  Testimony is probably not the correct word, as really the intent is not to get your whole life's story but rather just that which is relevant to you as a DJ.

That said, this mock-up is likely to change quite a bit. I will most likely break it all down to smaller tabbed sections.

- Contact (this will include basic identity and primary contact info. Secondary info will come in addition. Also, a user will be able to denote whether they would like to hide their real name or address.)

- Bio (personal info related to the DJ as a DJ)

- Performance & Music

- Equipment

- Faith

- Contact Info

********************************************

Okay, with that all said. I did this mock-up specifically to post to Tastyfresh.com for feedback.  If you any thoughts, comments, additional ideas you'd like to see. Please post them to this thread and/or email them to me Saj@easternstorm.net

I am really hoping to provide a tool that can both help strengthen the connections between DJs in the scene as well as provide a place for consumers to find us.

I believe tastyfresh.com is a superb scene builder for us, and carries the dialogs, news, events, and discussions quite well. I do not intend to move in that direction. But I do feel our scene will benefit from such a tool as I am creating.

Your feedback is appreciated and highly desired.  I tried to cover most of the bases. But I am sure that I will likely have missed a few here and there.  I thought about finance/fees. But those vary so widely per event I decided I did not want to go there.

The mock-up can be found here:  http://www.easternstorm.net/djdb/djdbmockup.html

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Sincerely,
Jason "The Saj"

Going to try to link to the Flash mock-up below:

http://www.easternstorm.net/djdb/djdbmockup.swf

(okay, not sure how to embed the flash in the forums. Object code didn't work. Nor did URL to the .swf or .htm file)

If anyone wants to tip me off to the correct way to embed, please let me know!

Not sure if you already saw this, but I have started this on Assembly Of Groove.  Here is a link to it:

I do like how much more involved yours is than mine. Mine is simply location based. Perhaps maybe we can help each other out.

Most definitely...  Cool

I will be coding mine using Flash and ColdFusion. So the hosting environment has to be somewhat specialized. That said. If you're willing to share and support my endeavor that would be awesome. And I have no qualms about supporting and even listing/linking to your site.  The more places for people to find, the better.

I like what you did. Though, I definitely want to bring things to the next level.  (Eventually, as Phase II, want to allow members to post events in their profile. Then someone can search for events within x miles in their area.)

Already, your's has given me some insight on a few things I was forgetting. Namely, "image/logo/etc". Yeah, I would have thought of it eventually and gone "duh". But it saves a lot of development time and re-working layouts if one does NOT have to re-work everything *lol*. So I am trying to get everything on the table before I really plunge into the development.

Just curious, how are you handling images? I am wondering if it'd be best to include two images. 1) A small icon/logo of say 100x100 pixels max. And then a profile image of maybe 400x400.  Though I will have to think harder on the exact sizes I want to use once I have the layouts fleshed out more.

Also, when you say "producer" are you referring to "music production" or "event production"?

Feel free to email me to discuss further.

images I usually resize to 100px tall (width does not matter).

producer refers to music.

Not quite sure on whether to include such a distinguishment.  It does kind of raise the question as to just what defines a "producer".  Is it any artist or band that produces recordings.

Is it more appropriate to allow the DJ to list such recordings?  Perhaps a discography?

Some good food for thought....
