Dance Music is My Drug!!!

« on: June 26, 2008, 10:23:23 PM »

I wanted to ask for Prayer for this saturdays event RADIATE, pray that we bring people to Christ, pray that we have a successful turnout so that we may continue our reach out to the youth of the Kansas City area, I have plans to bring Andy Hunter here in October as a leg of his US tour.

well so far radiate is a bust. the event itself is awesome but there is no one here. the djs, the sound, the lights, all of that is awesome. too bad nobody is here to experience it.

Yeah, ultimately, it was a bust. I feel kinda bad for Aaron because of everything he put into this. I think the attendance (including DJ's and friends) was around 30. Shame too. the sound was good, the lights were fantastic, the DJ's were awesome.

By the time my set rolled around at midnight, everybody had gone outside and then came in halfway through and started tearing down the lights. When Taylor (DJ Trailer aka Brian//Flinn) got on after me, he didn't even get to spin a full set. The sound system was slowly being deconstructed as he was doing his set. Not because he was bad or anything, just the fact that it was after 1am and there was nobody there outside of "us".

I did record my set and I think it's not bad considering the fact that I was stubborn and opted for no monitors so I could use my second output for my record line in to my laptop. Smiley I'll upload it tomorrow afternoon.

I think a good praise report to com outta this is the fact that I may have some upcoming paying gigs as a result of my set tonight.

Aaron, we need to do this again...smaller scale...bigger promotions. God has a plan. Tonight was a learning step. You did a great job pulling it all together and Louis did a great job holding it together tonight! You guys are an awesome team!

I really felt this was my first big dj event and it turned out horrible for all of us. But I feel the biggest let down since i didn't get to spin and the only reason why i put on a few tracks is cause it made me feel better. I will also help Aaron in any way i can now

I've done events and the net turnout had been just the dj's and friends.
I know the feeling!

Thanks Chris for the comments, I really appreciate it, you know, normally a person would be really depressed and discouraged by what happened but truthfully, it was a learning experience and I got some ideas from it as well as some more "What not to do's".  I'm very much in agreement with Andy Hunter about not making a Christian only scene, we need to get out there and make ourselves vulnerable and make our music a part of an already established culture instead of making a sub-culture of a sub-culture, so, on that note, I already have new ideas running around in my brain and that includes changing my approach to advertising in general as well as a few other things, fortunately I have good friends on my team to help me make this a happen, so expect good things in the future, Our Lord is my inspiration and motivation and I will never give up on him or this mission of faith, I won't be defeated.  I have a few pics I took as well last night that I'll post up as soon as I get them off my dads card.

just use it as a learning experience guys. for us as christian's it's even harder b/c for some reason it seems our circle of friends is tiny compared to that of the worlds. ive seen "secular" events back home do well and i think all they did was myspace, that's something to look in to if you didn't pursue that.
think big, but plan small, if that makes sense.
just try to do smaller stuff until you get a good networking system going and people know what's up.
summertime is awesome cuz you can do stuff in parks and stuff, i've seen some of the best events at the local park.
i wish you guys well in your future endeavors, and if you give me a few months (like 6) i'll be able to help out anyway i can up that way, i'm not that far away....
