I've seen the Numark IDJ2 and Cortex Dmix 300/600. I like the fact you can hook up a HD to these. Though, i've not yet actually played around with either of them. Are there any other players out there that have HD by USB hook ups?

I've also seen the players you can shove 2-4GB cards into. That might be an option.

Here's my deal(if you've read this far). I started DJing rap back in '86. Just had some cheesy radio shack mixer and some retail store turntables. I was 12, i didn't know. n_n
But i could play vinyl well. Beat matching and out scrathin my friends.

Met a guy , who still plays today(and 500 miles away now) and we used to jam on the weekends. He now swears by Serato. Then i fell away from it when i got saved. Left all secular music out for a few yrs. Getting back into music again and i usually just have tunes in the background when friends are over.  Two of them like the stuff i play and want me to do their weddings. So i figured i should pick up a better mixer and some decent players. Been wanting to get more serious with it but never could justify the $$. I've messed with Tractor Beatport player had an old pyramid knockoff mixer (that sounds horrible) and a 1992 Sony CD player that picks up static on CDRs.

So i picked up a Behringer DX1000 cheap this weekend. A friend is letting me use her laptop so i can hook up my HD and i have a few MP3 players to toy with. But i'd like to just get something real for my HD to hook up to and not deal with a bunch of CDRs or SD cards.

I not planning on this panning out to anything, but it'd be nice to have better equipment in case it does, ya know. I just like dance music. I can still throw down a quick decent mix and beatmatch pretty good. So, it'll be fun. Its just a wedding and reception. They both "want dance music" so i'd like to represent proper...the best i can. 0_o

Work has picked up so it leaves little free time to head out to guitar center and such to try things out. On the other hand, the overtime is going to fund my purchase  Cool

thanks peeps

here's my thing. You know you want to play mp3s right? Do you realize that a laptop with traktor, soundcard and controller will cost about the same as 2 mp3 dj decks? Why not go that route?

if you can afford the players, because of size, and easement, then go for it....

I rather not spend extra money on equipment that can only do soo much, yet I have my torq exponent, and it does more than my old setup would even dream of.

there's actually a few decent software mixers out there that are cheap, there's even one i found that's free (crashed on my laptop though).
i understand what you're trying to do, but you can do a lot with a laptop and a mixer.
may have to buy a good external soundcard depending on the app that you use, most i believe have external controllers (i use serato myself, love it, but i still mix with vinyl).
there are a lot of options, but independent mp3 players that i've seen arent the way to go.
that's like numarks ipod dj thing, did that thing ever take off? the only version i saw of it didnt even have pitch control, and i really cant imagine anyone spending the money for two ipods (at least the version i saw was like that).
not trying to discourage what  you want to do, but cost wise you can do so much better by using a laptop and traktor or mixvibes or torq or serato or whatever program you choose to use.

yea , i was looking at the Cortex Dmix for a while now. But i think i'll start with a laptop and traktor. Serato would be nice eventually. A mobile DJ up the street is selling a bunch of stuff so i'm getting some deals on lighting. . Picked up 2 scotty's, 2 full size chauvet line dancers  and an Insignia for $250 from him. Real good condition too. It's just falling into place. We'll see how it pans out

thanks for everyones input
