Ok so what are the requirements of an event becoming a groove collective? i never really knew what they were or even if there were any.

Im currently in the process of starting up a monthly event in Vancouver, its gonna be mainly for people aged 15-20 but anyone could come. Im getting gear together for it at the moment (lighting, sound equipment, etc...) and i'm getting there but just wondering if this is the sort of thing that could be classified as a groove collective or not?

Just wanted to know Smiley

Thanks
Chris

I need to start work on that section of the site Tongue There's just not enough time in the day.

Here are 2 articles on them:
Introducing Tastyfresh Groove Fellowships
The Case for Fellowships

Pat wrote this one about how to do it. The only thing it lacks really is how to promote it.
Groove Fellowships: The How To

Here are two other related articles:
The Southern California Fellowship

The Ohio Fellowship: The Electro-Spirit Crew

It doesn't have to be much really. Doug and I (finally) are starting to see each other once a month now to talk about things. That's the very loosest of fellowships there Wink

The main point is to get Christian DJs, producers and fans together locally and regularly. It doesn't have to be an "event". It can be for just coffee or pizza and it can happen anywhere. The thing about it all is "fellowship." Each local group should find what works for them and make it a habit.

ok sweet that helps out a lot Dave, thanks  Smiley

doesn't look like our event would be classified under that the, its run by Christians but is being promoted to everyone. The idea of it to give youth a chance to experience what the club experience is like and to give people a place they can come and party without the drugs/alcohol.

I never said you couldn't invite everyone to it. Seriously. If the core is Christian, it might count. It's up to you guys to decide if it is or is not.

ahah i never said i wasnt gonna invite anyone to it mate  Smiley i want people to come, Groove collectives have always been an intrest of mine i was just wondering if this would count. The organizers/planners/DJ's will all be Christian but the majority of the crowd probably wont be.

If the core is Christian, then it's a group of Christians reaching out and in fact putting some aspect of their faith in action (whatever that might be) and therefore are spending time with one another in some sort of unity and therefore have fellowship.

I'd call it one. Wink

The main thing to remember, this event isn't like any other event. It isn't a club night...it's a fellowship night. The music takes a back seat to the people getting to know each other, pray for each other, network with each other. This is a night for growth in the Christian dance community. That was the original vision for us when we started the So California Christian DJ & Groovemakers Fellowship back in 2000. A BBQ, a Bible Study & prayer time, some couches, some decks set up for mixing with no line-up or agenda, and open hearts. Some will say the Bible study and prayer time isn't essential, I say it is. If you take that out of the mix, then all you have is just a party. The whole point from the beginning was to bring fellow Christian DJ's and producers together for the purpose of fellowship in prayer and the Word.

It is an important part of revive to have bible and time of prayer and time for networking. We do it in the style of a club night because thats the culture people are coming from and thats the one we want to encourage and build each other up in! We also want to encourage each other that its possible to connect with God through club music and when we go out clubbing! It being in the style of a club is important to us but your right its not a regular club night.
