This is my first post, so hopefully this subject isn't posted somewhere else.

I am looking to get back into DJing and I am glad I found this site.  I never knew, until a couple weeks ago, that there are other like-minded folks out there.  Anyway, I donated my turntables and other equipment to a church when I moved, and now I am in a new church and want to start something up new and fresh.

I am now thinking of going to an MP3 system vs. traditional turntables and I want to make smart choices on purchasing.  I live in Durango, Colorado, so getting to a store to try things out is difficult, but I was able to play around with the Pioneer CDJ 1000 and it scratched better than I thought, plus all the other great features.  Does anyone have an opinion or resource on the topic of setting up a system with MP3 vs. vinyl.  It seems in this genre (Christian Electronic Music) and at my location, finding vinyl will be very difficult.  I like the idea of using electronic files, downloading and editting on my computer, then downloading into a player for live play.  The purist side of me would like to do it the traditional way (2 turntables and a mixer), but I want to get playing soon.
Has anyone used the Cortex Hdtt-5000?  It seems like it is half the price of the Pioneer products and I love the fact that you can download with a USB cable vs. smart card or CD disk.  Pros, cons, ideas?  Anybody?

Also, if there is anyone on the western slope of Colorado or New Mexico doing this kind of thing, please contact me.  We are isolated in Durango, but I believe we can make this successful in this community.  I will try to keep all of you up to date on our progress.  My goal is to start spinning next spring or summer!

Also, if anyone is in the area and would like to give us some pointers, we'll take you skiing or rafting!  -Ryan

if you want to still use vinyl, look into serato scratch, final scratch or traktor scratch. Those systems allow you to control mp3s with standard turntables.

erhmmm. also check torq! Only 139 quid and is similair to tracktpo and serato.About $200 ? Just started using it myself.

I was gonna buy a CDJ i also looked at some cortex gear. But now im more convinced with that seeing that i download my music why then spend more time burning to disk etc.

So i got soem  regular numark directdrive turntables plugged into "torq conncectiv".

The turntables give me the touch and feel and the torq software means no buying or having to carry round heavey recordS.

Also if you are thinking about the cortex hdtt 5000 then also consider the pioneer cdj400!

it looks like a good player and heard good about Cortex.  The HDTT-5000 is just a mp3 player or harddrive.  to play cds though, you would have to connect a drive to it through the USB.  So, I would consider a Pioneer CDJ-400, that is coming out soon or CDJ-800MK2.

For the traditional control with mp3, Traktor Scratch, Serato Scratch Live or budget minded M-Audio Torq.

Course it you just want a computer and controller, Traktor DJ or Ableton Live are good and with Vestax's or M-Audio's controller, thats a good setup too.
