I dunno, it took me a while to figure out who fluffypuppy was. I really think it won't matter if you include house, breaks, drum n bass...etc all under DJ 404. I have only one name for me and really to be honest, the drum n bass world might not be receptive or even poke fun at a name fluffypuppy. just some food for thought.

^ exactly. Actually, if you ask me... you should use your real name. It's the "in" thing to do these days. No matter what your name is, you look professional. With 404, you sound lost. With fluffy, you sound... soft, weak, a joke. Don't get me wrong, the name Fluffypuppy is awesome. I love it. It just may be a hard sell.

D&B is perhaps the Hardest genre to break into. It is also one of the most demanding genres at the clubbers/ravers demanding the latest tunes. Also be prepared to play pretty close to zero clubs in the midwest and mainly raves. Are you ok with playing at 2,3,or 4 in the morning after the headliner at 1:30, 2 AM. It is where you will start.
This is a very long road Chris. I also think the name Fluffypuppy is too soft of a name for the d&b genre. I think your real name is the way to go.
Be prepared to work way harder than in the trance/house scene where bookings are fairly easy if you have some skill. D&B runs in packs. Crews runs nights and book a headliner. This is going to take a ton of networking and stuff.
Not trying to discourage you Chris.

Yeah, even though I write d&b, done some mixes and people know me as a d&b DJ, half my sets I've done in my life have been trance. Some of the gigs I've done, I felt people will be more receptive to trance. But one in August, played a whole drum n bass set and actually sold some cds.
So far what I've seen, its a hard genre like Doug said. Really some of the scene gets really awful too, noticing this when I joined a new drum n bass forum year ago. Recently I've been getting into the liquid/funk style dnb like logistics, kubiks and spearhead, but this forum catered to the harder stuff. Kinda have to watch for that.
I would consider your real name or keep 404, since everyone knows you by that. I couldn't consider my real name and be confused with a kid's tv show.

Honestly, I'd start spinning house and deep house and find a way to work in funky breaks and liquid D&B into your sets. I think that could be somewhat unique and really showcase your skills.

I want the identity of fluffypuppy to be an industry secret.
Ummm, doesn't posting this on a publicly visible message board (i.e. here) kind of defeat this?

The name is meant to be ironic since it is a soft, sweet, and cute name playing some dark and deep, almost angry sounds. It's a puppy with a bite.
I can imagine it will be a hard sell, I will let the mixes and the marketing sell the name. If it fails, fine, but at least I stayed true to myself. I can't go out and spin drum&bass as Chris Salisbury. It is a horrid name. I even tried to ditch 404 for it back in 2002 - 2003 and the majority of you said it was a bad move. I ultimately agree with you. That is also why I can't spin drum&bass with the name dj404. I have built up a name and reputation as a house/breaks/trance DJ. To throw another genre on that, I think would just be too confusing. It's like going to a restaurant that has chinese, american, italian, and indian on the same menu. Don't you guys watch Kitchen Nightmares? LOL
Seriously, it has been not uncommon for artists to do different styles of work under different names. Look at Quentin Leo Cook or Richard Melville Hall.
Also posting this here on a public board won't matter when Dave switches to the new site with new forums. All this will be washed away. Only you here will be privy to the secret.

i use a different moniker for almost every set of new tracks. and will continue to do so. the last idea i had for a moniker was the "@" symbol. and i knew i had gone too far.
in your situation, though, for fluffypuppy, you can keep the name, but you must grow a very tall mohawk, cut your bigfoot monster truck t-shirt's sleeves off (very ragged), and have this "snarl" yet remain approachable while spinning. get a tin of altoids mints and pop them very frequently, so you can offer some to the headlining dj's or openers. also, it's imperative to headbang at all times while spinning drum n' bass. biker-style gloves are optional.
this, and only this, is the key to the flizuppy pizuppy's success, mind you.
