Stryke doesn't leave home without his alienware laptop, but he's also endorsed by them. That said, he did recommend another company to me called Music XPC. He's got one of these as well and says they're great tanks b/c the company optimizes them for audio production. I'd say look into these too before you buy something. I never got the cash together to buy one so I borrowed a mac for my Cstone sets this year.

I think you'll find that generally MAC doesn't put out whimpy computers like Dell or HP.  In order to get something equivalent to MAC's store specs, you usually have to spend a little more on the higher end PC's anyway.  I've only ever used MAC for music, but I have a PC upstairs for internet and things.  I think i'd prefer MAC, but I wouldn't care so much for a laptop, just the operating systems on PC seem like they bog down more.

For the guy who hates his MAC, I'll give it a good home.  Write it off as charity, I'll put it to good use.  PM for my address.

The mac i used this summer for music... crashed. Multiple times. Not when I was performing, but when I was setting things up and trying to figure everything out. Percentage wise, I've found the PC to be more stable. I do agree that Dell and HP design their gear for the average user rather than people like us though. That's why someone like Music XPC or a gaming pc specialist should be able to design a better laptop. The fun thing is... by the time they're done, they cost the same as a mac.

yeah I had looked at hte musicxpc but went with my alienware because I needed (or wanted) a 1920x1200 resolution @ 15.4" and I couldn't find anything below $2000 that had a screen like that...  having that high of a resolution is great with traktor because I can have so many panels up at once!!  and I didn't feel like having to haul a 17" screen around with me all the time...  my other option that I was considering was a shuttle PC and just getting a nice flatpanel but even then I couldn't find a screen I liked that was comparable in price.

AMDs supposedly run hotter than intels also...  I just know my Core 2 Duo runs so smoothly w/ Ableton and Traktor ... games run pretty well too  Cool

well i guess Alienware should be the choice, now i got to save up.  Music XPC, haven't looked at the laptops yet, but i would choose their cube pc over the laptop any day.
