Christina, to my understanding, Lifted is a one-time thing. there currently is no weekly or monthly Christian event in So Cal.

Well I went to Lifted. Great venue. I had just missed seeing Scott B there. He helped set up the sound there. Lifted was right off the 110 in Highland Park - a very gritty area of Los Angeles. The venue was in the fellowship hall where AJ pastors. The dj lineup was very good. The lighting was very dim and you could see the dj booth lit up by the decks and a few ambient lights. There were some random vids projected and the atmosphere was inviting. The entrance to the venue looked like it was in Hollywood...black carpet and roped off entry way - classy. I felt like I was stepping into teh Viper Room or a club on Sunset strip.

I missed DJ Bunny's set. When I got there a bedroom dj named Jason Macias was spinning some very brilliant deep house tracks. Great upcoming dj from L.A. They had Serrato set up and all the dj's were using it including AJ.

Next up was DJ Orlando. He was one of AJ's deck mates back in the 90's house scene. His sets were crisp and very deep.
Finally AJ got on there and rocked a very serious set. I left about 11:30 so I only caught about a half hour.

All of them were recorded and 404 should be getting them for your chewing and cudding.

They were filming there for a documentary on the house scene, house dj's and trying to bring house back up on the charts. There was a guy that worked with NSoul back in the day filming Mercy Streets who was the cinematographer. I did an interview on my experiences as a dj.

The dj's were all fellowshipping outside by a fire pit on the main street. We were flashing back to the 80's and 90's, talking about experiences djing in the clubs, music production and faith. In a way it was a mini-Groove Felloship. Some of the dj's were not believers but I think it had them thinking.

Sadly the turnout was very poor. I would say tops about 25-30, mostly dj's and friends or somehow connected with the church. It made me realize that the gap is still very very wide connecting believers to events like this. I believe the biggest keys are marketing and overcoming the stereotype that some people have that dancing can't be connected with faith.

Look forward to hearing the sets!

AJ is very adamant of raising up the house music scene in L.A. which like many markets is oversaturated with hip-hop. Even DJ Enrie, a prominent L.A. dj has a shirt that says "Hip-Hop is DEAD!".

Correction. I just talked to DJ Bunny. The computer recording locked up and pretty much nothing got recorded. AJ's set was definitely NOT recorded.

I recommend for EVERYONE who wants to record their shows, to do two very important things.

#1. Do not record everything in one long file. You need to stop recording and start a new file between dj sets. One 5 or 6 hour file will lock up on you. I have seen it happen time and time again. The very best set I ever spun was in Tennessee, I was using Numark CDX's and someone was recording the night on his laptop. At the end of the night, the laptop was locked up and nobody's set was saved. You can ask Adam Sean. He was there that night.

#2. Have a back up recorder. Minidisc, CASSETTE if you have to.

You all probably think I am crazy, but I believe these live recordings are vital, almost like historical documents. Sure someone can record a set in their bedroom, but it's not the same as when you are at a venue with a crowd responding to your live set.

So anyway, another amazing night of DJ's lost.

That sucks!  Cheesy
I remember that happening at the Groove Felowships we had here.
You gave me that advice. Had I known that was what they were doing I would have intervened.
Ask AJ and I am sure he will hook you up with a mix.
this is a cell phone cam vid: best I have until we get video from the viedographer
