Hey, Jeff! I'm planning to make it out again in January, weather permitting. Trying to get one of the other youth leaders, the youth pastor, and hopefully some of the senior-high youth to tag along. Should be interesting. I think they still think of a "hang-out place", not a "dance place", when I use the word "club". laugh I'm working to educate 'em. Cool

Five Forks BIC Church will be in da house January 18! w00t!

One of the youth leaders told me that a half dozen of the senior high kids were hanging out at his place a few days ago (he's the dad of one of them). He told them about Club Worship, and they're all up for it. So, way it looks right now, there'll be at least 8-9 of us taking the church van to Reading. Sweetness!

Jeff, I don't know what your budget is, but if you can fly me out for a weekend, I'd LOVE to play for free. Ever since I heard of CW I wanted to play there.

Wow! Nobody caught my boo-boo. I meant January 11, of course. January 18 is a junior-high event at my church that I'm helping with. Huh Huh

Just a couple of thoughts on the lighting......

What are you using for control of your scanners?

Were you running those MX1's in sound active mode?  Looking at the videos I thought the lights were "too kinetic" - too much color/gobo changes along with super fast mirror movements.....  Keep looks like that for build-ups during peak hour songs.  Try making simpler programs with not as much dynamic effects.

Also....

http://www.clubworship.org/cwalbum/2007-07-01%20before%20pictures/slides/IMG_7069.JPG

(apparently image links don't work here?)

Hang your MX1's  parallel to the wall, not angled toward the dance floor.  That mirror can swing a full 180 you will get more use out of your mirrors.   You will be able to swing those mirrors from one end of the room to the other.
The same goes for the pocket scans.  Hang them mirror pointing down parallel to the floor so the mirror can use its 90 by 180 degree coverage.
Instead of your scanners covering parts of the floor you will be able to hit just about anywhere with any scanner...

DJ Area:

I am sure you have some par cans pointing at the DJ for front light (that wasn't on while he was DJing).  Try taking some pars and back lighting the DJ with deep colors.  Also, hang some of your pocket scans above the DJ to make the lights look like they are coming from the source of the DJ.  You want to keep your DJ lit even when he is not MCing.  It makes them feel good.

Some of the best looks when we were doing fusion was when we would use the installed trackspots for primary dance floor lighting (hung above the dance floor) while my mighty scans were hung on a 26' truss behind the DJ.  The mighty scans could back light the DJ, do crowd sweeps, and stay above crowd with a slow gobo scroll.

To give you an idea of what this looks like: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=wC3Qm3lg_T8

Just some thoughts from my experience doing techno party's.  I really wish I could magically make it up to one of your party's - it looks like wicked awesome fun.

I miss Fusion.

Our Pocket Scans, MX1s, and barrels are all controlled on a laptop with a program called DMX LITE.

The MX1s are not sound active. After viewing the video clip several times it wasn't me running the lights, I have a different style than what was shown.

At our new location we do not have tripods or trusses, so we are not able to set our MX1s along the walls. We have to use the grid that was already there and I hate it. I miss our old set-up.

You want to keep your DJ lit even when he is not MCing.  It makes them feel good.

No. We really don't.

The Andy Hunter event was the first time we actually needed Stage Lighting and we were all noobs at it. Normally we try to keep everyone's attention away from the DJ. We down-play them as much as possible.

Also, I just gotta say we are Club Worship, not Fushion  Wink We have a different ministry and a different style. Such as we are not DJ focused. [/color]

yeah we just recently changed our lighting (all 3 lights) around to take the focus off of the DJ (me) as well...  we used to use a water effect on the wall behind the DJ but we moved that to the crowd to the dance floor now to make the stage itself a bit darker...  you can still see the DJ but a lot of crowd doesn't focus on the DJ as much anymore...

We have to run our 2 intelligent lights in sound activated mode because we don't have any LJ Trolls...   Cry    Luckily we have the sensitivity tuned pretty well to not go crazy during a breakdown / buildup...  At the moment I don't feel that we need much in lighting and we can't use fog in our venue anyway (smoke detectors go off)   anyone got any suggestions for a smaller venue w/ no fog??

Keep it dark. Use the ultra-violet color alot, esp since you give out glowsticks. A strobe might be nice. Yellows are bad. Whites are bad. Give LJ Troll a better salary than McDonalds and she'll come work for you  laugh

hmm you just gave me a good idea... maybe we should put a filter on top of the colorchanging water effect to darken it a bit...  it goes from dark blues and reds to yellows and oranges so maybe if we put a filter over it it'll keeps those bad yellows away.

P.S. I bet the mcdonalds up here pays more than the one down there.   Grin
