James McGinnis recently emailed me with a BSG theory and loads of questions about the series, and got me thinking about it. I'm eagerly awaiting the Razor movie and the start of the new season!
There are 12 models of the "human" Cylon according to creator Ronald D.Moore.
Over the course of the series all but 5 of those models had been revelead, and this led to people discussing the remaining cylons as the "final five" and Baltar became obsessed with discovering who they were.
To review the seven models of Humanoid Cylons that have been revealed on the show, go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylon_%28re-imagining%29In the season finale cliffhanger, it was revealed that Colonel Tigh, Sam Anders, Chief Tyrol, and Presidential Aide Tory Foster were all Cylons (or at least they seem to think so.)
If that's true, then there is only one unrevealed model of the 12.
Starbuck seemingly died in a viper crash a few episodes before the cliffhanger, but at the very end of the finale she appeared in a viper and said she could lead them to earth.
One easy explanation on how she is alive is that she's the final model of the Cylon, but that hasn't been stated as a fact in the series, it's just a guess.
If this is the case, perhaps all of the final five Cylons are human sympathizers who fight on the human side of the war, and maybe that's why the cylons don't talk about the final five?
Also, there has been a lot of fuss over Sharon & Helos baby as being the only Cylon -Human hybrid, but if Chief Tyrol is indeed a Cylon, then the baby he had with his wife Cally is also a cylon-human hybrid.
I find it interesting that there were 12 types of "human" Cylons and 12 colonies of Kobol.
James was wondering who the "Lords of Kobol" are that are mentioned in the show.
Perhaps they are the 12 Cylons? Or at least the ones that are human sympathizers?
They may have just been famous humans in their history, who are revered in the same way that Saints are here on earth.
They may be fictituous people like the gods they worship (Athena, Apollo, etc) or those gods may be based on real humans who performed great feats in their history.
I also wonder who the Cylon God is supposed to be?
The maifestation/hallucination of Caprica Six that Baltar sees seems to talk like he is the God of the Bible.
As for James' Theory:
The use of "Anglo" names bothered me at first, but may be a clue to an intriguing theory that I have developed on the possible origins of the Colonials. Unlike the original series, which stated prettly clearly that humanity originated on Kobol, and that an ecological disaster eventually lead 12 of the at least 13 tribes to flee to the system that subsequently became the Colonies, while another went to Earth (and contact must have been preserved with Kobol for sometime afterward, since the Colonials had knowledge of Earth), I think the new series will reveal a different origin for the Colonials. Instead of all humans originating on Kobol, I think Season 4 will reveal that Earth was their ultimate ancestral world and that the series is in fact set in our far future. In short, I think that the Colonials will discover that a group of humans left Earth under unknown circumstances at least several centuries in our future and ended up colonizing the planet that they named Kobol. Perhaps they fled some apocalyptic disaster on Earth, or maybe they were simply a group of neo-pagans who wanted to revive a society loosely modeled after ancient Greece and Rome. Anyway, the Kobollian society endured for several thousand years, until the mysterious disaster occured that led the 12 tribes to flee to another system where the Colonies were established. According to the information revealed in Season 3, the 13th tribe may have at least attempted to return to Earth sometime earlier.
