It's pretty much the same here where I work. Did you know the packets lost dramatically decreases if they drop your speed!? YEAH! It's true...there's a trade off ...speed and noise threshold. If one goes up the other goes down. With a higher noise threshold you don't lose so many packets. Still, we're down 20% of the time because of poor internet connection here. Luckily at home I have a great connection.

Luckily at home I have a great connection. Maybe, but at the carrier level, (which level3 is a tier 1 carrier) 82% is unacceptable. I left out the middle part of the mtr, but this is about 3 hops inside level 3 itself. I called knology to see if they could reroute internet traffic through someone other than level 3 (assuming they have multiple uplinks) but they had no idea what i was talking about (that's what you get when you call joe tech support at 12:00 at night) I'm also assuming that Level 3 uses fiber to connect to itself internally, so their should be no interference. I think one of their GSR's went stupid. And the issue hasn't been resolved as of this morning.

I know a small bit on the subject, but what's happening here? You're information that you send out on the internet, commands, emails, etc. isn't getting out?

They're giant, expensive routers (we have 3 of the model on the right) http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps167/I know a small bit on the subject, but what's happening here? You're information that you send out on the internet, commands, emails, etc. isn't getting out?
It's really just making my access to certain parts of the internet (anything that goes through level 3 (which is alot)) extremely slow, since most packets are having to be retransmitted 3 or 4 times.
