I think I first heard some cool techno dance music on a radio station and I had to go out and buy it.  And then it was like pretty cool from there.  I can't remember what radio station but it out there somewhere.

Been thinking about this recently and I've realised that the first dance track I first heard and loved was this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvgUdrzGNys

Culture Beat – Mr Vain

I remember taping it off the radio when I was 8, thought it was amazing!!!

yeah... Gotta admit... that one does suck me in.

C&C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat is STILL guilty pleasure of mine and one reason why I in to this.

Beyond that, it was mostly scifi movie sound tracks from the 70's and 80's. There was also a small group called Future Bach which was well... classical music played on synths that dragged me in a bit. I think after I heard the Jyradelix album, I was totally sold.

The KLF & Snap.

My friend used to share his headphones with me on the bus and this is what he was always listening to. WHen I look back, to me The KLF were way ahead of thier time.

2unlimited.

I heard it in high school blasting from somones car on a break and was so unlike anything I had ever heard. It was wild crazy and so fast I had a hard time keeping up.It ended up being the first casset tape I ever bought once I had my own walkman.

I was listening to a local rock station called "planet rock" that played some great Christian tunes but mostly bands that yelled like POD and East West and then they randomly threw "Power Cosmic" on there on day from The Echoing Green. I was hooked ever since.

http://www.amazon.com/Echoing-Green/dp/B000007O9C

I also discovered late night DJ mixes on stations like KISS FM playing songs like what Nathan said, "Culture Beat – Mr Vain, " "Rhythm is a dancer" by snap, stuff by Corona, and most embarrassingly barbie girl by Aqua.

What genre do those songs go in by the way?

I think my infatuation with video game music played a big role too. I used to record it off the TV and listen to it on my cassette player. It would drive my cousin and the rest of my family crazy. I just couldn't get enough of it playing the game so I had to take it with me wherever I went lol

Depends on the mix- Could euro pop.  Could be just club mix.  They were usualy just club mixes of popular songs.  I like the remix of barbie girl, just did not like the singing. laugh
