this may be old news to a bunch of people, but i searched the forum and didn't see anything about this.

Released 2 months ago, was a single for Shiny Toy Guns - You Are the One. I know the song has been out for a very long time, but it was a new remix that i didn't know about.

It included a remix by Gabriel and Dresden. That made me really excited.

This is my response after listening to the samples:

I hated it. it really sounded like G&D spent like at most 10 minutes on it. I was extremely disappointed! The original song was uplifting and energetic. I have seen really good quality stuff come out from G&D in the past, and when I saw that they remixed STG, i was way excited to listen to it. i honestly thought that they were better then that.

the remix was bland. lacking in energy. boring synth in the background. took the original vocals and did almost nothing to them. just threw the vocals on top of a terribly produced, and extremely boring backdrop.

that just made me angry. i love STG. i love old school G&D. im so sad.

i had to voice my opinion on this. i really hate it when producers will spin out garbage just to make another buck because they know people will buy it. its like they stopped trying. i hate it when stuff like that happens in the dance scene.

here is the link to Juno Records shop were you can listen to a sample:

the most ridiculous mix is the Club mix. the unplugged mix is different, but shows just as much effort from G&D

I couldn't even listen through the entire club mix. That was bad.

i dunno, i appreciate more about how Shiny Toy Guns built themselves up than their actual music.  To be fair I personally wouldn't want to remix You Are the One unless I was paid big bucks.  It would be a difficult project because the track itself is really strong on its own, so how do you remix something that doesn't need anything else to stand on its own two legs?

I've been remixing vocal tracks all summer, 5 to be exact, so here's is a hypothetical situation that G&D might have come across:
"what would happen is I would end up writing something that wasn't along the lines of what the label wanted because they want something that captures the vocals and then the label would write back and say, just let the vocals carry themselves and then i would send them back a track that is kind of bare and really features the vocals, but not much else done creatively to carry it"

there's a small chance that's what happened.   don't think that just because G&D are big names that the label is going to accept everything that gets sent their way.

Heh, the "remix" was released YEARS before the original. It was by Slyder and it was called NEO. There even was a Raving Loonatics version. That's all I need.

I have hte 2x12 remixes.  I'd agree its a strong song to begin with and would probably be hard to remix.  I personall think the Sharam Jay Remix is the weakest- its just like listening to the regular track.  G & D ok,  I like the Adam Freeland stuff the best

Yep most of the time i really dig everything from G&D but i think i agree with Joel.... they're probably have been told how to remix the track.... which resulted in this not-so-good remix..
