So what's Iron Man's story?  From the above posts it sounds like he was forced to create a weapon and then he became that weapon?

So what's Iron Man's story?  From the above posts it sounds like he was forced to create a weapon and then he became that weapon?

Tony Stark was brilliant. A Billionaire Weapons Designer and Dealer, but also a party boy and an alcoholic.

In the movie it looks like he is giving the US Army a demonstration of some weapons, and then they are transporting him somewhere.  Some terrorists attack the army convoy he's in, and kidnap him for their Warlord who wants him to build weapons for them.

Unfortunately he's seriously injured in the fight when they grab him, and a piece of shrapnel is lodged in his heart.

He builds some sort of device in his chest that keeps him alive, some sort of advanced pacemaker kinda thing.

He and another captive are supposed to build weapons for the Warlord, but instead they work together to build a suit of powered armor to escape with.

He "opens up a can" on the terrorists and the warlord, busting to freedom as Iron Man.

This ends up being kind of a life changing experience for him and he struggles to be a better person, while still having problems with alcohol and stuff.

He makes other Iron Man suits and becomes the Hero known as Iron Man!

Jon Favreau is doing a great job with this so far, it has exactly the right feel to be true to the comics and still have a mass appeal!

To be true to the current comics he'd have to be a totalitarian responsible for the death of his best friend and an American hero. Tongue

But yes, Favreau is appears to be doing a splendid job. I remember hearing suggestions that he play "Happy" Hogan.
Also, Samuel L. Jackson will be playing Nick Fury in a cameo. The big rumor is that he'll be trying to recruit Iron Man for The Avengers in anticipation for the planned film of the same name and that a virtual identical scene is being filmed for the same-year-release of The Incredible Hulk. Smiley

And here I go again re-resurrecting it. Smiley

New Trailer!

HD version

So Iron Monger will be the villain that Iron Man fights directly but The Mandarin's presence will be behind the scenes. After viewing this trailer I'm inclined to believe that the man who captures Tony is actually The Mandarin and that he hires Obadiah Stane to build the Iron Monger suit.

Sounds right John.

a blend between the original Iron Man Comics, Ultimate Iron Man, and the new iron man cartoon movie that came out last year.

I missed Samuel L playing Nick Fury, till I just came across it in on IMDB. That's badass.

I'm so excited for this movie. Iron Man's always been one of my favourite comics.
