Ok, that kind of a question is gonna start a debate that reallly isn't encouraged at all. So lets just say that some of us consider that entering into the occult relm which is strongly discouraged, thats all.
Occult/ Meditaion/ Chakra Talk is now offically over.

even though some of it is talking about the nervous system of our body, the word use is linked to some religion or occult and contradicts what Christians believe.

Anyway.........
Back to the original topic. I've always been a pretty active/athletic person. I grew up in the country, and was a tomboy. Currently, 5'5", <110lbs, size 2. I eat pretty healthy overall, but have only walked, of late. I did roller derby last year, and man, that was pretty intense. But, my body loved that. I miss it. When I move back home, will do A LOT more hiking out in the country air. I walked for a few hours at an outdoor flea market this past Friday. It was wonderful. I also enjoy swimming and some light weight training. I actually put on muscle mass pretty easily so I keep that a bare mimimum and stick mainly to cardio-type exercise, and stretching.
Diet-wise, mainly organic, all-natural, live foods. Sure, I eat junk on occasion, but only on occasion. I listen to my body. If it craves something (and, as you get more healthy, your body will align itself accordingly and come to prefer healthier foods), I listen to my body. I fast, do detox-type things, on a semi-regular basis. My body loves that. I'm a sporadic eater, but that is what works for me. Sometimes, I'll pig out, but then I'll go a few days hardly eating anything except fruits, soups, bread, etc.
I eat sardines, from the can, 2-3X a week, heating up some veggies, rice, etc. It makes for a pretty quick, cheap meal, actually. I quit eating pork awhile back, eat very little red meat. I eat a good bit of whole-grain pasta, with pesto or tomato sauce. I eat tons of grains -- whole grains, NOT the bleached, enriched crap. I eat lots of rice, I eat sushi a good bit, wild game (like squirrel, venison, dove, turtle, etc.). My dad hunts all that, and we eat it. I'm starting to incorporate more nuts into my diet, too.

I find it quite fun to come up with healthy alternatives to the typical American diet. For me, anymore, grocery shopping has become an adventure. Really. I trek all over the supermarket, often going to different ones, to get the things I'm looking for. Today, I'm going to Trader Joe's to get my nut assortments. Yum!
Other days, I go to Kroger, Meyer, Wal-mart Supercenter, Wild Oats, or even to Farmers' Markets. I picked up some homegrown grapes and plums at the outdoor flea market on Friday.
When I move back home to live near my parents, I plan on helping my parents straighten out their yard, organize a smallish plot of land, and grow a small garden of herbs, tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, etc. They live in the country in WV, so they have a huge, beautiful yard. A couple or so acres on a hill with trees and wild grasses all around.
I'm not domestic, though. I just like to be connected to nature more and more. I've always loved plants, gardening, and the outdoors, and I find myself returning to that once again.

Yeah, I can't top that.
I just do what I can to survive in my urban jungle. I try to do as much as I can with as little as I have. Sometimes I eat some crappy stuff. Often I would rather starve that eat fastfood for lunch. Some times I don't eat a lunch 'cause I can't find anything I like. I get what ever exercise I can find.

You have an good diet, a hard thing to do especially in this country.
Weight is something that I've struggled with almost my whole life. The only exception was when I lived in Guyana, South America in a little village on the outskirts of the amazon for a year and a half. In that environment the selection of food was limited, everything was fresh (fresh fish from the ocean or river, different meats, veggies grown in the village, etc.). That coupled with no transportation besides walking caused the lbs to fly off without even trying. I went down from 270 to 195 in about eight months. When I came back over here I slowly started gaining again, I went back up to 265 in about five years and decided that it has to stop. I had to study a lot of biochem for the first part of boards recently and started to think about how to burn a whole lot of fat using what my body already has. . .
Fasting doesn't work to loose weight because you body is starving and adapts by lowering you metabolism and digesting everything you eat, storing it as fat after you stop the fast (the reason why some preachers are still big even if they fast regular). In fact you body burns all your muscle first. In a fast it takes about 27 days of straight fasting (just water) for you body to switch over to fats as the sole source of energy. It does this because muscle has a higher energy requirement than fat does and without food coming in it is one of the most difficult tissues to maintain. So muscle is broken down into proteins, proteins into amino acids, amino acids are converted back into sugars and from there you are able to still function.
There is a way to bypass that though. If you have a steady diet of only proteins you muscles will not breakdown and you will burn fat for your energy needs. This has been around for a while (check out
http://www.lowcarb.org/stillman.html
). Meat also has less calories in general than carbs so you also benefit from that. The problem with a low carb diet is mainly in the kidneys. Kidney problems result from the breakdown of proteins and ironically the massive amounts of fat you do burn. It is funny that the reason you would go on the diet is to lose fat and loosing the fat is the one of the reasons not to go on the diet. The breakdown of proteins causes you to pee out a lot of your water, so does the breakdown of fats into ketone bodies. Long term high amounts of urea (from the proteins) and ketone bodies could hurt the kidneys. Proteins are also acidic and you would need to balance your PH (with some baking soda in water). Proteins also don't have any fiber so motility can be an issue (however you can take Psyllium whole husks to resolve that).
I've been on it for about two and a half weeks now and have lost about 15-20 lbs. I take Omega threes, a lot of B-vitamins, CoQ10, L-Carnatine (to help with burning the fat), Glucosimine/chondrotin/MSM (for joint support), Ca and Mg (for bone support), baking soda occasionally to lower acidity, and Psyllium whole husks (to keep things moving). This type of diet is not for everyone, and if you can do more of a lifestyle change one than that would be better. For me extreme things work, I want to lose the fat fast and still build muscle. Once I get down to my ideal weight about 195 I'll stop. Right now I'm taking the time that I am on this to come up with a maintenance type of diet. The diet is not really all that hard to do, you don't really get hungry, though some people have cravings for sugary carb rich food. I is going good so far, and under it all I feel God saying that it is my time to loose the weight for good (been praying for a while).

this is the most "balanced" diet, which hate using the word "diet" since its more of a lifestyle change than diet. Its not a fad diet, nothing to go on and get off, it focuses on the right amount proteins, good fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, and what foods to get them from and in right amounts. No low this and low that, nice sensible meal planning. Also has good workout info and its pretty much just balanced diet.

i think this is a really good question. the answer is does the christian worldview allow for the existence of 7 centers of mind/body/spirit energy sources that you need to balance? i don't think it does.
you should post this on
www.theologyweb.com
there's tons of really, REALLY smart people on there who would be able to answer you in specifics.

Personally, I think that's bogus, as well as other things. I believe in balance, and that health is not a purely physical thing. It encompasses at least 4: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. If one of those is off, then your health will not be where it should be, no matter how much in balance the other 3 are.

You have an good diet, a hard thing to do especially in this country.
Hard..... more like challenging. But certainly not impossible. Just get into the habit of reading those nutrition labels and substituting stuff.
Sugar = bad
High fructose corn syrup =
really
bad
bleached, enriched flour =
really
bad
enriched wheat flour = still bad
Coke = bad (although I occasionally indulge anyway)
Diet Coke =
really
bad
Crisco = disgustingly bad
Pam = bad
margarine = very, very bad!
red meat = not so much
pork = considering they eat, sleep, and play in their own crap, would you want to eat them? Personally, I wouldn't. And bacon is the most disgusting thing ever invented by man.
Okay, I think you guys get the point. None of that is real food. It's like only pretending to water your plant or feeding your cat cardboard and lint, somehow expecting it to still be happy, healthy, and frolicky. Now for some viable substitutes:
honey = really good
fresh lemon = good
fresh oranges = good
whole wheat bread with no additives or preservatives = GOOD!
rye bread = good
all-natural, organic granola = really good
organic yogurt with 6-8 live active cultures = very, very good -- let's just say, GI problems B-gone!
tea = good
coffee (in moderation) = good
water = good
fruit juice (with no added sugar) = good
olive oil = a Godsend
real butter (in moderation) = okay, but still multitudes better than margarine
salmon = good
sardines (even in the can!) = good
Farmer's Market = YUM & Good at the same time !
wild game = again, yum
flaxseed = good
wild rice = good
Okay, well, you guys get the picture. And not all this stuff is expensive, either. Some of it may be, but it either goes on sale, or you can get it somewhere else for cheaper. Sure, it may taste bland next to Americanized food, that has all the additives, fake flavorings, preservatives, and fake color, but your taste buds will wake up, and your body will be happier in the long run.
And........ just say NO to cardboard! *blech*

i don't think pure sugar is that bad, its the refined stuff, imitation and fake stuff that is.
Sugar refined or not is usually sucrose. It is half glucose and half fructose. The refined part just increases the surface area making easier to absorb. Unrefined sugar just makes it harder to absorb never the less it is still bad for your system. Your body uses sugar for the transportation of energy. When the sugar in your system exceeds what your body burns it is stored as fat. Sugar is not bad in itself (honey is sugar) it what you don't use that is bad. Truthfully sugar has so much calories in it is difficult to burn them all, that's one of the reason's why it is better to stay away from them. Keep in mind that all your carbs (pasta, bread, etc.) is directly converted into sugar in your system. In fact starches are the way plants store sugar, starch is packed condensed sugar, so when you eat bread or starches it is just as bad. You can test this by chewing pasta or bread for a long period of time eventually the enzymes in your saliva will break down the starch into sugar and it will begin to taste sweet (that is what happens in you digestive system directly). The glycemic index is a tool that tells you how much something is broken down into sugar. The high content of sugar and starches in our diet is a major reason why being overweight is becoming a serious concern in America. Then it leads to diabetes, which if your not born with it, is your body pretty much giving up on taking the sugar out of your blood. One of the reason diabetes happens is because we spike our blood with sugar when our bodies are meant to have a gradual increase and decrease in blood sugar content. Spiking the blood with sugar, by eating high amounts of starches or sugar itself, causes the body to fail in its response to its presence producing diabetes.
In short sugar and starches are not good to eat in large amounts, refined or not.
