i was in the station with him, the mix went fine.... but man we had some huge equipment problems!

shelby brought his serato equipment and laptop with him, and some vinyl just in case that stuff didn't work....

we were using a crappy radio station owned set of decks and mixer. shelby was on at 3am sharp. shelby was setting up serato around 2:30 am and nothing was working. he fiddled with it until about 2:50am and decided to just go vinyl, because we knew that would DEFINITELY work. that was a dumb assumption.

we re-setup the cables so serato was out of the picture, and then with less then 5 minutes to start... the mixer problems became apparent. numerous dead channels/inputs, along with having to force mono out to the radio feed. also multiple nobs and sliders on the mixer either didn't work or produced crazy results, or gave huge ammounts of feedback. the mixer was definitely broken. oh and also with less then 5 minutes to go we had to switch out 1 of the decks. it was broken also.... for some reason it wasnt producing any sound output, even on good mixer channels.

once he started though.... yeah it went alright.... unfortunately because we had only seconds until we hit dead air, we kind of forgot to setup the recording of the set.

yeah the station's gear is GHETTO, last few times weve done live mixing on the show we had our own gear, not again unless we bring our own or until the station gets new stuff.

yea, i didnt have any time to get nervous about it luckilly, haha i went into bedroom dj mode, and jsut did my thing, the mixer was such trash tho i couldnt even touch it without the levels FREAKING OUT! so considering how stressful it was setting up, and considering i had to pull a mix out of my butt with 2+ year old vinyl, i spose i did pretty well hah :-)

Equipment problems suck, especially live. I know of "some" dj's who bring a fresh mix pre-recorded on CD's JUST IN CASE.
