I've had people peer over the booth and look at me dj'ing with CDJS and had the same comments. I think it's a cultural shift that they haven't quite grasped yet. Most people think that a DJ needs vinyl or CDS as thats what they've been exposed to mostly. Once laptop DJing really catches on they may change their opinions. If they don't then two fingers in their direction usually helps

Yeah well all this... keep vinyl alive, don't loose our precious CDs rubbish is just some old stuck in the 80s rubbish, dance music is and will always be progressive and revolutionary

When people like Saunderson and Pierre picked up a 303 and hooked it up to a 909 I bet there were the old disco die hards getting upset, crying at the thought of live dance music dying. Yeah if I was Nile Rodgers or Larry Lavan back in 86 I would have felt uncomfortable with these little kids making music with machines and seeing the reaction it got.

We need to move forward

Hi DJ Vicar,  Ru and myself checked out the 'Joachim' videos you told me about:  He's definitely a DJ and he's definitely a performer! (and very cool!)

Yes see what yr getting at!

But alot of terms we use start with the orginal idea and then evolve into something else. And move away form the orignal idea. But the name is kept.

Its just that the term DJ comunicates the idea of playing other peoples music/records. i like the idea of performing but i still associate performing with artists who might perform there own material. Rather than creatively present someone elses.

Sorry im still going with DJ.
And computer music in the uk agree its seems. Their latest edition is dedicated to Digital DJing!
including all the possible platforms and approaches.

Maybe DJing can now stand for Digital Jockey! Wink

A jockey w/o a horse.

A short guy running around a dirt track? Huh

Two people drift in a lifeboat. One says, "I see an island. Our best chance is to go ashore, build a shelter, and await rescue." The others says, "No, we must go farther out to sea and hope to find the shipping lanes." Unable to agree, the two fight, the lifeboat capsizes, and they drown.
