Help!!! Ableton tweaks + tips needed!

Am off this sunday morn to the New Wine Festival UK and will be djing in venue 2
On a couple of the evenings.
MY tracks are warped and arranged into sets as clips. So I got a hip hop set electro house set etc. IS it better to load as many tracks into session view in ableton. Or drag the tracks in live as and when i need them.
I have found that when i have lots clips loaded into a session that it pulls on the cpu percentage. Why is that? Im on a G4 powerbook and so dont have loads a power to play with. even though it has 1gig memory.
Also am i right in thinking that ableton uses yr hard drive like a scratch disk? So its better to have as much hard drive space as possible. 4 example my power book seems to struggle when i only got 4gb Hard drive available available?
I am also very limited to how many plug ins i can run. As some point i plan to run ableton in my intel mac but havent got round to loading everything over.
Any tips suggestions for better performance much appreciated.

when you load mp3s into ableton, ableton extracts them into wav files and puts them in a "Decoding cache" folder... so yes, the more space you have free, the easier it is on ableton so it doesn't have to keep deleting and extracting over and over again...
