Question for those who organized Afterhours

Now that C-Stone has come and gone, do we as a community continue what was done there regarding the Afterhours event. Can we as a community have a generator stage at all the big festivals (i.e. Purple Door, Creation Fest) I was wondering because this way we as DJs, producers, remixers can show how we utilize our talents to the kingdom on a larger scale. We all know at the larger stage we have no place with artists because heads come to see artists and we are looked at as support of the artist (i.e. soundtechs). We all know in the dance community heads come to see the artist and the DJ they share equal billing, in the overall music scheme in the body we are a afterthought. What can we do to change that??? Just a observation and of course I seek everyone's wisdom in this because together we can make a change. Thanx, all.

honestly... TF and BTU can't do it by themselves. At some point, local groups have to stand up and take responsibility for these events. It took over 6 months just to plan cstone this year. I dunno about you, but that's a LONG time for one fest. Add in a limited number of vacation days and the need to keep a day job and very quickly it becomes apparent that TF and BTU can't.
We need more people who are willing to stand up and take on a fest by themselves or with a few friends. That's how Cstone got done this year.
Beyond that... many of the fests may not be open to generator stages. If they aren't, then we're still not going to get the results you want to see.
Here's a bigger questions:
why are we still trying to appease the CCM scene when the secular one is wide open to us?

It could be the secular scene I was just wondering due to getting many e-mails about the Christian events lately. The question was sparked by my trip to Detroit (DEMF) and seeing so many heads come out to see DJs and producers perform and once again my insides were saying "Why can't we as a community do this in the Body??" By the way I know about the day job thing (I have one) and I agree you need to take the vacation days and that why I have stated that together we can make a change because one person can't do it all, you and I know that. As you know if I need to come down south or go west, I will Lord willing to be with like minded folks, maybe on my part I need to search in my own pond a little bit more.

We gotta set up regional areas first. The south is "covered" with BTU, Doug and myself, but we do have some other people involved in their own things down here like Sky and Aric. You should set one up in your area. I think the MI people might be getting it together. I hope they are. This is just gonna take time.

This is true and I may have to make more trips out that way. Thanx for your input Dave, I'm very grateful for it.

No problem. You really just need to start working contacts around there.

well I think there is enough talent in the Northeast if we all get together... between Frankie, DJ Caleb (who I met at club worship last year), myself and I'm sure more in the area that I can't think of right now... we can get something together!
(I'm in Wappingers Falls, NY which is only about 40min from the jersey border)

I can leak this info safely, but I am in talks with some Kansas City people to plan some events. Hopefully we can get an annual event going.

If someone's willing to pay my salary, then I'd be more than happy to take this on full time! However, until they do, I have to remain selective about the events I get involved with.
That being said, i could care less about the CCM types. They don't want to acknowledge us, so I'm not going to go out of my way to acknowledge them. Christian EDM artists are finding a great deal of success in the secular market without even having to make "crossover" tracks.
I'm very happy to work with Cornerstone, because they want us there. Cornerstone has been awesome to work with. Other festivals though...I'll have to see if they really want us there or not. if other people are willing to put in the effort, Dave and I may be willing to give some direction and advice.

Good point, but it raises a question in my mind: "aren't all EDM tracks - that happen to be made by Christians (
) 'crossover'?
But on topic: I'd love to get involved with something regular here in the UK - just don't really have time at the moment - so for the time being i'll tag along at the Upper Room events. (hope to come up on the 14th Kevvo!)

nope. But that's arguing semantics, which is something I'm not going to do.

man, this is weird to me
"afterhours" over here, means something that starts at like 6am, at the earliest 4am, and usually it's full of completely cracked out people still rollin' hard from whatever party/rave/club they came from before hand...i don't even go to those, way too cracked out for me, hehe
the terminology is just interesting for me, in the secular world the word means something entirely different, i dunno'...just an observation that was amusing to me =)

most afterhours in Vancouver start at 2am, when the other clubs close and the liquor license ends, lol.
