Doug, who was it we were talking about recently who got busted for just hitting play on a CD and pretended to mix vinyl?

This was none other than Robbie Riviera.  He pushed play on a cd deck and their is a youtube video of him mixing and forgetting to move the crossfader when the mix is actually happening.  Probably high/drunk or something... i dunno

Ha ha.  Junior Vasquez was nearly run out of a Toronto nightclub back in the day for pulling something similar.  I'm sure it happens quite often.

The best ever though was at one of Toronto's legendary Destiny parties when Hardfloor was booked to headline the event...they didn't show, but the promoters got a hold of a DAT tape of a Hardfloor performance and got two local DJs to disguise themselves as Hardfloor and mime along to the pre-recorded live PA.  It, uh, didn't fool anybody.

I'm not sure that beatmatching will go away anytime soon. Wink  Being a professional mobile dj who has done beatmatching and preformatting on cd's for various events that called for audio soundbites and soundeffects cued at a certain time, I am aware of some of the software like FS and even PCDJ Red and PCDJ RED VRM (I've used and still have PCDJ RED VRM), Tricerasoft (Tried it on a free trial download, but wasn't able to fully utilize all the features and was limited to 60-second samples from music in my files, so....*CUE "Flushing Toilet" Sound Effect* Cheesy), and even Mixmeister.  By the way, in my personal opinion, I think that Mixmeister is HOT! Cool  While most dj's still use the standard two-decks system - regardless of LP's or CD's or MP3's, etc. - this one allows a dj to mix up to 8 - yes I said "8" - songs in a standard crossover effect, or even mixing one song at the same time with another(or even several songs at the same time! Whoa! Shocked).  Even with this new technology, it doesn't always find the correct downbeat of a song and may need the manual assistance of the dj that is familiar with the song being mixed. Grin

I think DJing and beatmatching will always go hand in hand. It's more a matter of when is DJing becoming live programming?
