hiya, ever since i can remember i have had a problem with paying atention, and being interested in an ything for more than 5 minutes... it plagued me all through school, and i went to countless conseling sessions because of it... i was even labled "special" for a time and had to have special learning classes because of my problem... it is refered to as "ADD" or atention deficite disorder... although i do not believe it to be a disorder as a disorder refers to something being wrong with me mentally... i can go into the history later as why i think i have this problem but ill skip it for now... recently i have become so frustrated with not being able to produce and sit and get things done that i should be able to... i dont clean my room, my truck is a mess... i jsut cannot focus on anything... especially the things im interested in... i have been thinking about trying out ritalin and seeing if that works at all... i know nothing of it and would like some advice, and prayer for wisdom about the subject... anything would help really... im just at wits end and need to figure something out... and please no cliche answers... i need real advice

I don't know your in's and outs but it sounds like depression. I know when I get hit with it I lose focus and the drive is not there. There are many online tests.... a good resource is htp://www.newlife.com
I have a friend who has major OCD and medication helped her alot.
PM me if you want more 411. I might be able to offer some insight.

Shelby more than anything I can say I recommend you seek the advice and counsel of a doctor.  And feel free to get a second opinion on what they say.

I would rather see you under a doctor's care than to give advice which I have no training to do.

I will be praying for you.

I agree. This can't be assessed by any of us...you need to see someone who isn't going to steer you wrong, or at least is legally liable if they do!

heh yea i guess your right, well at least pray for me for sure because im just so frustrated with always not being motivated to do anything... i mean... i have the drive, i WANT to produce, and i WANT to clean my room, and i WANT to do alot of other things but im just so scatyter brained that when i "see somehting shiny" i say ooooh and run after it. and no pat i am not at all depressed, i have had this problem since befor i can remember, i remember in elementary sachool the counselor gave me a polished stone to play with in my hands because i was so figity that i couldnt even look at the teacher 90% of the time... and it rreally hasnt gotten much better, i have just learned to semi control it, but it isd still something that just wrecks my life silently every day. im kind of tired of being made fun of for it, i feel retarded alot of the time just because i will do really random things that are kind of stupid, or i will forget where i put things ALOT.

at work i will comonly go in the back and look for something, and EVERY DINGLE TIME i go back there i will get there stop and go "um..... hmmm.... why did i come back here.... mmmm... crap... i forget..." its amusing to the other poeple around me because i do it EVERY SINGLE TIME! but it really really bothers me, i van never ever get done what i want to get done. mostly i just need prayer i guess and if anyone around has had this experience please share it with me because i feel really alone right now...

I agree with what pretty much everyone else said, Shelby. Call up your doctor's office and just let them know that you what to talk to the doc. My doc's great at sitting quietly and letting me ramble for a while, then asking clarifying questions and talking things through with me.

I'll be praying for you.

Two people drift in a lifeboat. One says, "I see an island. Our best chance is to go ashore, build a shelter, and await rescue." The others says, "No, we must go farther out to sea and hope to find the shipping lanes." Unable to agree, the two fight, the lifeboat capsizes, and they drown.

I read through your post really carefully again...and i realized you were talking about me!!!  smiley22

I wonder if this is typical of the kinds of guys frequenting this place? I have the EXACT same things as you are indicating...especially the memory thing. Which is weird cuz I have almost a photographic memory!

And sleeplessness is a real problem too! Not that it's some chemical imbalance or something...but my mind just won't stop hassling me. I'm always thinking about "what ifs" and I actually compose best when I'm in bed! Stupid eh?
But...I'm hijacking. Just thought it was maybe helpful for you to know that this is probably something MANY of us have!
I've never seen it as a 'condition' before...but tonight my wife even said, "why do you always have to be doing something!?" or  "why can't you be still for a minute.?"  PFffftt!

Um... just from my knowledge... ritalin has the OPPOSITE effect if you are over 12. It acts more like speed then. It has to do with the chemical changes in your life around that time.

Go to a doctor. Talk it through with them. Try to avoid drugs if possible, but if you really do need them... take 'em.
