"Death Of The Dream" - R.I.P. ~ 1941-2007

« on: April 16, 2007, 07:49:52 PM »

I'm so excited.

EDWARD NORTON has been cast as Dr. Robert Bruce Banner in the sequel/(possible) remake: THE INCREDIBLE HULK!

And an interview with writer Zak Penn on casting Norton: http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5506

I haven't been this excited since I saw Batman Begins.

No. It never happened!

Just like Kilmer, Carey, Jones, O'Donnel and Clooney were never in a Batman movie!

And Hayden Christensen was never in Ep. 6!

It NEVER happened!  Undecided

it would be nice to see them do a second try at this because the first attempt bombed so much...  Edward Norton is definately an interesting pick but he could definately do well in the party I thnk

There were parts of 1 that I really loved. You know... like the opening credits.

IMO, I couldn't even be bothered with the plot of the other one because the "multimedia comic book" editing of the film was so intrusive and just plain irritating.

I guess you didn't like Charlie's Angles or 24 then.

Didn't see Charlie's Angels. What 24 did/does (don't watch it anymore) was different. They'd give you simultaneous views into separate locales, something arguably necessary for an ep done in real-time. And from what I remember, they kept it under control. Hulk was like I said: an attempt to make a multimedia comic book. It was over-the-top and distracting editing.

Ang Lee should never have directed Hulk.

This quote from Brendon of filmick.co.uk has it spot on.

[...]
Ang Lee's monster mess was an insult to the very language of comics. He made these vague pretensions towards incorporating what he saw as comic book grammar into the film by featuring split screen effects, but of course, this removed the basic language of film even further from the language of comicbook storytelling. Simply put: comic panels aren't simultaneous; the passage from one to the next is an indication of the passage of time. Just like the flow of normal, single-screened shots in a normal film. The split screen goofery smacked of intense arrogance and ignorance on Lee's part.

For a good taste of how the language of comics would appear on screen if filmed, the opening sequence of American Splendor offers up some clear possibilities. Of course, the languages are different enough that moving images can never truly match still ones.
