From Juice's thread referencing DJ Mag's CD, I said...
Where I live, DJ Mag is not available anywhere. I'd have to subscribe to it.

After I said this, I considered subscribing to them because when I used to have available access to the magazine to purchase in stores, I was generally happy with the CD included. So I head over to djmag.com and seek out a subscription. For me here in the states, after currency conversion and then breaking it down for price per mag for 12 months, it comes to around $12 a month.

To me, that's a little steep for a magazine subscription just to get a CD with it. They offer the paper magazine online as a PDF download (don't know if they are charging for that, but I assume if so it is at a discount rate). What about guys like me who could care less about the magazine and only want the CD? Do they offer a ZIP file of the monthly CD? I'd pay for that on a per issue basis depending on the content of the CD.

Anyway, that's my rant.

I prefer Mixmag anyway.  BPM is garbage now.  That used to be a pretty decent domestic magazine.  I REALLY miss MUZIK though...

i subscribe to Remix and Electronic Musician, about the only two I get things out of.  Mobile Beat is pretty good as well.

I love magazines, though I'm more of an URB and XLR8R reader.  I had an URB subscription a couple of years ago, but I don't think any free CDs came with the deal.

Not that I would have cared either way; I still have more CDs than I'll ever need.

I just looked into their sub. Right now it is cheaper than DJ Mag at $119.27 for a year. That's still a CHUNK of cash to ask for up front if all I want is the CD.

Is there a US based magazine that does the monthly CD thing?

BTW, I just checked out both URB and XLR8R and they both seem to be more hip-hop driven. Not at all what I want. I need HOUSE MUZIK.

I like IDJ the best.  Mixmag always seems like it is catering to the candy crowd, althought it is the biggest one out there of that type.  IDJ seems to have more music, gear, reviews etc, and nice interviews.

LOL, I'm surprised you didn't say more indie rock driven, as both mags have been *cough* diversifying *cough* of late.  URB was always 50% hiphop and 50% dance, now it's like 50% hiphop, 25% dance and 25% indie-hipster-rock-garbage.  There's a reason I didn't renew my subscription.  XLR8R is still a solid techno magazine, but there's a lot of other stuff between the pages too.

Hmm...I didn't see that about XLR8R from their website at all.
