DOWNLOAD HEREMy ReviewHere it is, the very first ever "For Christians, Elves, & Lovers" as broadcast Sunday, February 4, 2007. It was a good show, however the audio you are about to hear needs an explaination. First off, there were loads of connection problems between OLR's main studio in Washington and Thom Mac's studio in Michigan. So it had a rough start to begin with. Next, Thom's mic (as I understand it) was an old/cheap microphone due to the fact that Thom was snowed in and could not get out to get a new mic. Finally...the levels were off quite a bit on the recording...more so than how it was percieved live. It did sound a bit loud live, but the actual recording directly from the stream really peaked in multiple places. This caused a few of the songs, particularly the first song and many of the last half of the show to be extremely distorted. Even if we tried to clean it up, it would not be really clean.
So, why did we decide to go ahead and post the audio if it's messed up? Well, for two reasons. The first is for "historical" purposes. I am a big fan of first impressions. The show it self is a very raw, stripped down, broadcast that, within time will become a very fantastic broadcast. I believe it will be a major pull for those who want to find out what One Life Radio is all about. Months, years, down the line, it will be cool to pull up this first broadcast and see where it started. The second reason is because not ALL the audio is messed up. For the most part, it's very listenable. It has some rough spots where you will more than likely want to skip, but seriously a great deal of the audio is fine. Give it a listen.
I had two favorite things about this first broadcast: Thom's quick request turn-around. We were in the chat room, We would type a song and within minutes that song was on. Thom was so good at meeting requests, he ran out of time and even has next week's playlist just about filled. This is a very good thing about such a "flashback" type of show. The other favorite was the wealth of knowledge and the vast amount of great classics that Thom Mac has. He schooled me. He played stuff I had never heard of and it totally blew me away. I remember I asked him at one point what year a song came out that he was playing and he said 1965! I couldn't believe it! It sounded like something from Woodstock yet it was released 4 years before Woodstock! This show has many other gems like this.
You need to tune in and check out "For Christians, Elves, and Lovers" every Sunday Night! It is amazing!
