Help needed!
Just got back from Djing a 3 hour set using live. Things went pretty well but i must admit i am struggling abit with how long it is taking me to put my set together. I was working on it for well over a couple of weeks.

I a planned a hiphop/triphop set followed by some chilled house, electro and breakbeat.
I tend to work across 8 tracks which coincides with the 8 tracks on my evolution mixer. So must have had about 150 tunes loaded in + samples loops etc.

Sometimes when im preparing a new mix  i might remember something i did in previous mix and (such as how it was looped) and wonder if there is any way fo doing this?

Deeflash mentioned in previous post about also having different sets lined up. Wouldnt it be cool if you could have different sets,as seperate files whereby you could switch from one to the otherwithout a break in the music, rather than having to load all tracks into one file.

Does any one have a better way of preparing sets in live? More am more i am starting to the sponteneaty of decks! But i still love live.

Help!!

here's a little gem of a tip...  say you have a song broken into clips:

All you need to do is select all of them, and then drag and drop them into your browser:

It will create an als for them...

Then all you need to do is drag and drop the als back into your set whenever you wanna use those clips!

It might seem like a bit of pre-setup but the nice part is once you have the clips made, you don't need to keep making them... plus it's easy to make them on the fly the first time... select the song, hit ctrl-d (duplicate), set your start point in the next clip, ctrl-d again, etc etc...

also when you drag your clips into browser you can have them spanned across multiple tracks... and when you drag it back in, it will have the spanned across the same tracks...

you can also do copy and paste... which can come in handy if you're using macros or just faster with a keyboard... select the slot you wanna use... hit Alt-left select the song in the browser, ctrl-c, alt-right (you go back to the same clip slot), ctrl-v....

hope this helps!

ps. what I also do for loops is kepe them in a separate track and when I find a loop I like, drag it into the browser and name it something like artist-songname-loop and then I can just pull it back in when I need it to my loops track

Cheers man this is a big help.

This is another question. What if you were playing in the middle of a set and suddenly you thought of one of those clips in the clips folder but hadnt loaded it in. Would you drag it across while playing? Or would you stillg go for everything loaded in.

Anyway will give this a go! Thanks

you can drag clips into your set while playing other songs live... the only thing is depending on the number of clips playing at the same time and the size of your new clips, it might take a while to load them in, but I haven't had any problems with pops or glitches while dragging new clips and playing other clips

once you drag them into the browser, you can delete them from your set... it saves them into whichever folder you drop them into in the browser...

Ableton does rely on the location of your mp3 or wav, but you can move the file and ableton will just aks you where it went and yo ucan redirect it...
