Hey guys,

So I have been playing around with trying to setup a dj template for use in ableton, I have my choice of 3 different controllers, an edirol PCR-M80, a m-audio trigger finger, or a behringer bcd2000...   so it would be great if we could post each other's templates to learn from...

if you guys don't have a place to upload them, you can email them to me and I would put them on my website and post a link in this post for ya..

Thanks,
Chris

PC, are you talking about the phat conductor template?  I am not sure I want that one, because I don't do much of the crazy breaks djing (which it seems his template is tailored for) yet and I wouldn't want to spend $30 on a template until I've seen some others first... :-)

p.s. he just finished a pc version.  Grin

in addition to the scenes I am using from phat conductor's template, I added this scene to use during mixing... phat conductor's template is great for the browser access and juggling and such, but he hasn't put in any live looping yet so I added a scene for live looping and general mixing...

the filter sweep is pressure sensitive to sweep the auto filter from low to high kinda like a pioneer effect... the harder I press the button the higher the freq...

next I'm gonna setup a scene to kick off a track full of dummy clips... anyone else using dummy clips yet and if so what have they got them doing?

yeah, let me know  how the phat conductor template works out, I have an maudio ozone that i would like to use instead of the trigger finger.
i am using dummy clips right now with different amplitude envelopes for eigth note length gating (tightening effects) - similar to using a crossfader to "crop" beats and breaks, using a follow action to trigger different notes.
i am also creating some quick-mix early speed-era jungle from old breaks by copying several instances of the break into different clips, setting the trigger to different eigth-note locations in the break for each clip, and using random follow actions for mad choppage, then running the output to the dummy clips as stated above.
this is kind of like having a little virtual ltj bukem mixing your drum parts in ableton!!  Cool
now all i need is to get Stephen Hawking's speech synthesizer program and make a virtual little m.c. Conrad to rhyme from random xml rss feeds about items of interest (just joking)

seriously though, i am trying to make a macro and assign it to a knob that, when you turn it, changes the scale effect of incoming midi notes, scrolling through different musical modes, so  it's like when you play a chord or phrase in, the midi is sent to a different channel each with a different musical mode setting, changing the knob selects and solos a different mode channel and thus morphs your live input from the keyboard into brighter/darker/jazzier/rigid/wierd/wild sounding musical phrases. ideally i would like to make this into an x/y pad much like fm8 and the new ni synths utilize.

aside from that, ableton's sampler is most likely the next frontier in my production, setting the loops start as modulation destination from random locations triggered by aforementioned breaks and melodies sources, for kind of a virtual "star wars-cantina band" inside my computer to accompany me.

it would be neat if xml tags or something could be utilized to scan your hard drive for "optimal" sources that the computer could "decide" to incorporate into your project.

does anyone know of a free .mov encoder so that the video capabilities of ableton can be tapped into?  my digital camera only outputs mpg i believe, and my phone outputs .3gp .

thanks for your help, i am looking forward to learning from this thread!
