Hey guys,

I have a 3 year old iBook G4 and it's been been running really slow lately and the S.M.A.R.T. analysis says the hard drive is failing.  Anybody else have this happen to them?

I am looking into getting another one and backingup everything on this drive really soon.

Better do it fast. And yes... hard drives can and do fail. It's normal. They spin at speeds up to 5,400-10,000 rpm (depending on the type of drive). It's a wonder to me they don't fall apart within the first minute they run.

Yeah, i'd back it up, like yesterday. There are ways to get data off of broken harddrives, but they usually aren't cheap.

Hey guys,

Cool yeah I talked to a local mac repair shop and they said yeah to backup the data which I had already done most of it...and then get in it to get another harddrive.

I was thinking about getting a MACbook anywaz so I guess now it is time.

well... sure... I guess now is a good time, but hard drives are dirt cheap compared to a new laptop.

Hey Dave,

Yeah I am already out $200 for the apple repair shop to fix it and put in a new hard drive.  And then I figure I could get a couple of hundred if I sell it to them after that.  And there is a special deal on amazon.com that will give you a cash rebate if you buy it through them.

So the Macbook 13' one that I want is like $1299 so I would buy it for that and only be out like $1000 if I don't sell fix it the one I have. Yeah I wanna use it with Abeton Live, and all that for some live coffeeshop stuff.

Anywaz just my thoughts...
