My parents always used an electric kettle, but my wife and I are oldschool, using a stovetop one. The whistle tip thing broke off pretty quickly so instead of a whistle now we just have to watch for the gout of steam.
I'm Canadian though, which means I drink a LOT of coffee as well as a LOT of tea. Best of both worlds I guess.

I have an electric kettle and I'm in Canada. It's a Black and Decker 1.7L, it's tall like a pitcher, It even powers itself off when it's done boiling. You can get these things from any store that sells small kitchen appliances, in this country.

Paul, I'm probably stating the obvious, but for heating up water for tea and cocoa we use either of the following. And I NEVER use the microwave for heating liquids.

My wife and i use one. No fancy h20 level though. I despise microwaves...and cellphones. I love my 2 cup tea pot, too. Think i'll make some ... We dont usually use the bagged tea either. We have a great place in PA that sends us 1/4 and 1/2 lb bags of the loose stuff and separate to taste in the wire mess 2 cupper thing. I steep it real long and strong... Loooove it.

Are you guys serious, how can you not use an electric kettle you wake up switch it on and presto boiling hot water, I cant beleive people use microwaves to boil water, what heating water by passing microwaves through the item which in terms shakes the molicules and causes them to heat up soesnt sound right. Dont get me wrong I use a microwave but not in every instance, conventional methods like heat applied work wonderful.

We have an electric kettle. Its plastic and white. and it doesnt whistle. and its not the pitcher type. We have one of those at work. I do use the microwave though too, usually for like a single cup.
You americans who dont use electric kettles are deprived. Tea tastes so much better with boiled kettle water.

by the way. I bought one.
well, not that model but one similar. This one boils the water and even brews the tea for you (kinda like the way a coffee maker works)
