So...I'm trying to decide what's next here, and I am really intrigued by the mp3/aac mixage on vinyl via SSL or FS.  Has anyone used both that could say which they liked better or one they used that they loved and why?

Thanks!

Ableton!

Seriuously...If you're going to go the MP3 route,  consider Ableton with an external controller like the Evolution UC-33 or a Novation Remote LE.  You can do WAYYYY more than you ever could with FS or Serato.  Please take this bit of advice from a recovering old school grump.  Fitzpatrick had to fight me to get me off Vinyl.  Now,  I was ahead of him moving to Ableton.

Seriously consider making the switch to Ableton.

I have both Ableton Live 5 and Final Scratch 1.5.

Ableton I feel somewhat takes the fun out of Djing as far as beatmatching, cause you set the tempo and all you have to do is trigger it on the first beat and vola.

But Im gonna incorporate it in my setup more, so I can do stuff like mashups.

If you're totally hands on, FS or SSL are a good choice.

Between the two I would SSL over any FS older than 2.0.

But some stuff that 2.0 has sways my decision.  Mainly I like the GUI better than SSL's and the interface for FS2 is a lot better.  I havent used SSL, I wouldnt mind getting my hands on it once to see it.  From what I see, it tends to be more in the hiphop world and FS in the club world.  Even though some of SSL's stuff is appealing, Im probably going to get FS 2.0 eventually, just because Ive been with it from the beginning.

If you want to use Live, UC-33e is pretty good, but M-Audio X-Session Pro and Behringer's B-Control are more like a DJ's mixer.

Ableton has more "gadgets" and you control it with the mouse and midi controller and FS/SSL control with vinyl, depends on your preference.

See,  I find myself being more hands on sincei Moved to Ableton.  Since I don't have to worry about beatmatching(A very overrated skill),  I'm free to drop in loops,  effects,  and overall just pay more attention to being creative.

I already have used and like the Traktor software, too, so FS should be cake to use.

That's one GOOD thing about FS. You can choose between software solutions and that can make a HUGE difference. Traktor is an awesome program.

yeah, the other day I found out you can control Traktor DJ with the vinyl that FS uses, nice feature.  Tell the truth Ableton and Final Scratch are both really great programs, kinda hard to choose.  At first I got Ableton for production, now i use it for its intended use.  FS, well, i got before I even knew of Live.
