Chris... I'll go line by line for you. I hope it all makes sense in the long run.
No offense to the BTU guys, but why does the Tastyfresh podcast have to be under the BTU name?
There are SEVERAL reasons for this. I was actually going to suggest it to Oneel, but he beat me to it. Musta been a God thing.
1) The ONLY reason why TF got rid of it's proto-podcast YEARS ago was the additions to the copyright laws that forced websites to pay performance fees and do so at a MUCH HIGHER rate than what a normal radio station had to pay. That right there killed it and unless we could pay these fees, TF wasn't going to have it. You don't want to loose TF b/c the RIAA and the Feds want your house.
2) BTU IS paying those fees. TF slides in under that by being hosted under their name. They're a shelter.
3) BTU is also has a growing following. Within that following is a LARGE number of people who have yet to hear about tastyfresh at all. Most of whom may not even know that Christians are into dance music. This gives TF the opportunity to draw in new members and hopefully to convince others that they don't have to stop living to be a follower of Christ. In otherwords... we're talking about outreach here.
To me, it just doesn't make sense. Tastyfresh has been around for 10 years and is pretty much the "authority" when it comes to this thing we tend to call the Christian Dance Scene. Anytime someone online wants to know about Christian dance music, they are usually referred here.
But... here's the thing, according to the logs, we haven't grown ANY in over a year. The traffic stays right at 5,000-5,500 unique visitors a month. The only conclusions you can draw from that is: a) we have found ALL of the Christians in EDM or b) we are stagnating and not reaching people. Given this summer's Clover Fest, I am HEAVILY leaning toward b. So... we have to do something. The first step was a myspace page and the second is this podcast. The third will be the redesign I am already (slowly) planning and working on.
Also, Why is the Tastyfresh Podcast going for so many mainstream names?
That's call marketing. These are people that non-Christians will recognize and want to listen to rather than most of us who they haven't heard of before. Again, it also shows that you can still be cool if you are a Christian.
What's wrong with promoting the guys who are working hard to DJ and promote the scene and get little or no recognition? There seems to be no respect anymore.
Where in the WORLD did you get this idea? Did you not read the first post in this thread:
OK... who would you like to see featured? The format will be 2 hrs long. It will contain 2 1 hour long mixes. The idea is to make one from some well-known dj/producer and then one from a not so well-known.
I'm also disappointed that you didn't read the tastyfresh 2007 article in the zine last month where I started to explain all of this, the latest unity article AND especially the follow discussion. All of that shows EXACTLY why this podcast is the way it is.
