got to be honest with you...I'm sure the rest of the mix is ok, but I got as far as "where's the drugs and the drink, where's the sex and the love"
Not sure I want to be putting that on when the kids are about...and not sure that it's going to be edifying my spirit that much.
Thanks for putting some work into it.

Hey Prophet, you gotta remember that not everyone who posts here is a Christian.
Just letting you know. Still... good on you for watching what you listen to.

"Tastyfresh.com is THE website for Christians who love dance music."
Out of love, I am about to rebuke you good sirs.
It is interesting to me that mixes with
blatantly non-Christian
messages are allowed, while
blatantly non-dance music
Christian topics are disallowed.
Dave, basically what you are saying is that people reading this board are free to contribute anything about music but not about faith.
Sheer and utter hypocrisy that neither edifies believers nor witnesses to non-believers serves no purpose, except thorns for the bon-fire.
Decide whether you are going to lock home-dudes mix like the recent end-times prophecy topic, or perhaps re-evaluate your mission statement.
Your site can either be the best Christian dance music site on the web or the lamest secular dance site on the web, your choice.
"For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world." - John 7:4
With a non-judgemental anticipation, I look forward to you-all's reply.

Resp-T ~ well, this may be more of a topic for another forum section but I will quick respond my 2 cents.
Yes this is a christian web site. There is constant talk going on in all forums that is godly christ-like and edifying of the spirit. But it wouldn't help the growth or ministry of these boards if we automatically locked all new comers the moment they posted something that didn't fit into our guidelines.
Funktion has 3 posts total so far, how uptight do we look if we already lock down on a post already? If I had just arrived and gotten locked out already I would be gone.
At the same time, we need to recognise that some topics of discussion are just not meant for these boards. We have the guidelines so that we aren't always getting into fire fights over denominational or theological hot points. Most of us are here at TF to talk about christian dance music and all its related topics. A post about predestination or a topic on free will or the rapture doesn't do anything but show us all what we don't agree on.
There has to be some sort of order and rules here and locking out a newbie who seeks to enjoy our company isn't what we are about.
Well, ok, that isn't nearly as concise as I wanted but I hope I got part of my point across.
God bless.

Andy,
Honestly, you missed my point: Not everyone who visits TF is a Christian, nor do they hold to our standards or convictions. In fact, you know that not even every Christain on this site holds to the same standards as far as language and a few other things go.
Now, at first I KNOW that sounds like a cop-out. Stick with me another minute (maybe I'll make it better, maybe not).
I don't know where Funktion is in his life right now. He's made 3 posts. That's it. He's obviously tied to a secular label and from the myspace site, probably isn't a Christian. Funktion could just be here to spam and promote his stuff. No biggie, lots of ppl do that. The question is will locking this thread or deleting it turn him away from coming to know God? It could happen. Granted, if he repeatedly dropped foul language on this site and similar things, I would have a talk with him about it. This is his first time and I'm more willing to let it slide because of it.
What's happening here though is the guy makes 3 posts and the content of some link he put here promotes ideals that I would say 99% of us don't agree with. Because of that, someone says thanks but no thanks and then explains why. Someone else reminds the first responder that we do have non-Christians who read this site. Then, someone else comes on and bashes the reminder because he thinks the content should be removed because the reminder is a hypocrite. Well... now we have an argument among ourselves and our witness is trashed. Great!
What message is that sending to Funktion? Seriously? I'm very concerned about this. I don't want to simply turn him off just because his mix wasn't "conservative" or "Christian" enough and make him feel like he has to conform to our standards in order to be welcomed by Christians. In every case where Jesus met with a "sinner" he met them as they were and treated them with love and respect. I don't want to compromise our values and beliefs regarding decency, but I don't want to protect them above ministry opportunities either.
Just some other practical thoughts:
First, what rule in the posting guidlines has he broken? Based on what we have heard, though we disagree with the message, would the mix be rated higher than PG? I still haven't had a chance to actually listen to the mix yet, so I can't make that call beyond the quote provided.
Second, if we listen to this mix and delete the post based on its content, to be fair we have to do the same to ALL of the other mixes on this site. Who has time for that? Are you willing to take that responsibility on? For the most part, this site is self-policed and it should be that way.
One last thing, like it or not... we're not discussing theology here for a host of reasons. There is no hypocrisy in this. Everytime I've discussed this with Christian leaders outside of this site, they agree with policy here because touchy spiritual discussions need to be handled in persons in small groups by knowledgable people rather than the Internet mob mentality.
The bitterness and infighting that it has caused here EVERYTIME we have allowed them over the past 6 years has not been worth it and has been more damaging than helpful. The purpose of this site is to help Christians connect with other Christians and to develop the skills they need to go where God leads them in this scene. That is why the rules here allow for you to discuss such topics while banning debates about the existence of the Trinity, which Bible translation is better and the correctness of infant baptism. There are THOUSANDS of sites out there that are better equiped for those types of discussions. This one isn't.
You want to know why we don't have more spiritual topics here? It's because none of us post them. We should have several threads going about evangelism in clubs on this site, but we don't. We should have several talking about where we feel God is leading us, but we don't. Where are the discussions about DJ led worship? Come on! I'm VERY encouraged however at how well we pray for one another though.
In the next zine issue, there will be an article by me talking specifically about the need for us to define what it is we are doing here and to do so using scripture to back it up. After this, I EXPECT you specifically to participate in the discussion. OK?

AndyT,
I see where you are coming from, I really do. But I disagree with you totally (naturally, which solidifies my upcoming point and the whole reason we cant allow spiritual debate here). We have a pretty good community here and allowing full-on Christian discussion and debate would only make it worse. It has, time and time again. You can actually debate the stuff related to dance, although interestingly there doesnt seem to be much debate over it.
This is a great 'church' as it is. You know what will happen if this church starts debating over whether the four horsemen are really angels on horses or b-2 bombers with nuclear warheads? I will leave, and so will many others after a huge bloody argument. People can NOT be civilized over the things they feel passionate about, especially religion. I cant, redsavior cant, you probably cant, and neither can hardly anyone else
A teacher at Moody Bible Institute where I went for a while used to say that if you dont feel passionately about something enough to swear about it, then you dont really believe it very passionately. Debatable and arguable of course, an argument that would probably end in me swearing at everyone else.
I cant think of one way that allowing all of the different religions (non-christians show up to enter the fray when they can) and denominations on this board debate the interpretation of Revelations would help us one bit. There will 'never' be agreement and only pain by pursuing those arguments. Someone has to 'win' them with their interpretation and it just wrecks the whole place.
I will take this time to interject that we voted for these rules as a community, so as some of you wonder why we cant have spiritual debates - the people have spoken. And it wasnt a split decision either, I was really surprised at the fact that it was more like 70/30 against having spiritual debates. Ive never seen anyone turned away from here with a serious spiritual questioning, Ive seen polenty of people willing to take it to PM and email.
Annnnd again Ill throw in that not too long ago we allowed political debates to come back which lasted about 2 weeks before everyone made morons out of themselves and we took them away again because, just as with scripture, everyone has opinions they feel passionately about.
I think it's a more inviting 'church' to people actually when they dont 'have' to be subjected to all that debate. In the end it really doesnt matter if there's flying armor covered scorpions or helicopters destroying the world.
Andy, please tell me specifically, if we tore the rules apart right now, and allowed free for all discussion about Christian doctrine - what would happen on these boards? Seriously, lay out your vision of the discussions that would take place and the future of these boards. If it has anything to to with a peaceful strengthening of the people here growing in mutual agreement on points of doctrine.. well I know that cant be right because it hasnt happened yet. Churches work because most of the people believe what the pastor has to say. When people dont agree, people leave. This place is not a church replacement or forum for debate. When we throw parties, the dancefloor is not an open forum for someone to walk into and debate scripture
You can do it in a room off to the side, as most do. When is the last time you were in church and saw someone stand up and say "I disagree with you pastor" and wreck the rest of the service with a 1 on 1 debate?
I think you start to get the idea. Im seriously interested in your vision of what would happen if we allowed the debate

Bro, I would be honored to. Getting the communication fired up is what I had in mind in saying what I said. I am extremely interested in spreading the message about Christ to new members of this board. But not responding as the Spirit leads me, and exchanging it for a compromising, half-hearted, fake embrace is not going to attract newcomers to Christ. A stern rebuke brings about the fruit of repentance.
Funktion, bro, if you are reading this I owe you an apology. I checked your site and came close to emailing you personally. However, let's get it all out in the open here. I am a Christian man. This is a Christian music board. You should expect me to represent Christ with zeal and vigor. I expect you to represent your beliefs no matter what they may be. I respect you as a fellow brother, Funktion, and you Dave and you Dan. But iron sharpens iron. You have to dig deep to plant a seed. One plants and another harvests. I want to make sure an impression is made, a firm stand is respectable to the secular humanist as well as the agnostic. Love chastens and corrects.

How many times did Christ disagree with the Pharisees? Opposition from the world usually means you are making headway. However, when that opposition comes from your Pastor, speak with your feet and change churches if he is not preaching the Bible. Excuse yourself quietly and bounce. Find a Bible-based church.
Am I going to resign from TF because wack mixsets are allowed? No. Should Funktion give up on us because some foo (i.e. me) has a big mouth? Absolutely not.

Plus, half the reason I brought this up is to learn more. I am student, not a teacher. But lets use the same textbook here, the Living Word of God as our reference for Spiritual debates.

In the end, what do you think we would have gained?

Yes and no. Honestly, you have to police yourself. If you have problems with porn, then you shouldn't be going to porn social sites and expect them to censor themselves for you. I'm sure wwww.xxxchurch.com deals with this all the time. If the thread is blatantly causing problems, it will more than likely be censored. As it was, the spiritual and political debates WERE blatantly causing people to stumble in how they treated others around here. For that reason, they were censored.

Agreed. To quote Revelation 2 though:
Quote
1"To the angel[a] of the church in Ephesus write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands: 2I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. 3You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. 4Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. 5Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. 6But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.
It's sooo easy to also forsake our first love by defending what we believe is most important in our beliefs.

Only a fool would say that opposition from the world usually means you are making headway. In some cases its true, maybe even most, but the problem is that this argument is always thrown into the mix to justify actions way to quickly. Most often, it's used to defend one Christian's objection to what another Christian is doing rather than the world's objection. That's very close to what you are have done here in this thread.
Overall, I think you missed Dan's point. You do have a responsibility to correct even a pastor if he is clearly in the wrong. The question is HOW do you do that? Should it be done immediately in the sermon? Should it be done later in private at firt? I believe the Biblical model is first in private by yourself, then in private with a fellow believer and finally in public in front of the whole church. Standing up and interrupting the sermon is not the Biblical way of doing it. So... why did you do it here rather than in private with me first?

Why was the student trying to teach then? Come on. Nothing is wrong with speaking up and you could have, but it has to be done as a dove rather than an elephant... or a teen who is still a student but acts as though he knows everything and should be teaching.

But lets use the same textbook here, the Living Word of God as our reference for Spiritual debates.
Funny... we did that and this is where it got us.
I'm not discounting it. Your are 100% right. We need to base it all on that same textbook. The problem is that we all come from such a diverse theological backgrounds that we all have different perspectives on the same passages in that text and none of us are truly open to learn the other's perspectives if it is counter to our beliefs. Since we hold the Bible as 100% true and accurate, we all can say we're right. What we miss is that while the Bible can be 100% true and accurate... we can still be wrong in our interpretation of it. This is esp. true when we don't spend enough time in the Bible and trying to understand how it is to be applied.
Andy, I'm not trying to knock you down here, but I want you to understand that we didn't have to approach this issue in this manner at all. It did not have to be a confrontation like this. Thanks for apologizing to Funktion. Anyway, it's time to move on. If you want to talk about this some more with me, feel free to send me a pm.
I admire your passion man. I really do. Just don't forget that the greatest commandment of all is to love the Lord your God with all that you have and the second is to love your neighbor as youself. If we only lived by that, we'd be like Christ.

Wow....I didnt realise that my response would cause a hornets nest. for that I am genuinely sorry. For my part, and without all the big words that i got confused reading...
I didnt realise that, as a CHRISTIAN music site goes, there was no real guidlines as to what music can be submitted and what cant. To me it begs the question...why call it a Christ-centered DJ culture website to start with, if there is no real cencorship about the music.
I for one have enjoyed the mixes for the period of time that I have been here. Furthermore, I am sure that the rest of the mix is probably a good one. However, what I heard to start with pretty much goes against the lifestyle that jesus teaches me...and that is why I made the post.
Over and above that, I am sorry that I caused an issue to arise

1) Because the site is a dedicated hang-out for Christians.
2) The zine focuses on Christians working in both the secular and Christian scenes.
Those are the two quick reasons. The site isn't so much about music as it is helping people to improve and to use the gifts God has given them.
We're also slowly reaching OUT to non-Christians, hopefully, in the same manner that Christ did.
