Hey,
If your town has a group meeting on a regular basis (3 or more meetings), please post the following here:
Group Name
Group Location
Group Leader/Contact Person
I'm starting to plan out the GF/GC part of TF and I want to see what type of foundation we have now.

the basic description is a simple gathering of people who enjoy dance music at someone's house. Not a LOT of people, just a comfortable amount of people...a living room full. The reason is simply to hang out, have some decks open for those who can to spin some tunes, maybe barbecue or order a pizza, and at some point in the night, you have a short Bible study followed by prayer requests. You pray for each other and lift each other up.
I know from the years of doing this at DJ Pat D's house I grew very close to those who attended. They became my extended family. They were my brothers and sisters. We knew a lot about each other simply because we made it a point to have these monthly get togethers.
It's part networking, part making new friends, part growing as a Christian. It's the one element I miss the most since moving from California.

Could I bring GROOVE FELLOWSHIP to FINLAND...I had been thinking to get Christian techno music freaks at Finland into one...and starting to get Christ noticed in techno scene, and in church's techno music noticed...

That's great woc3, but this thread is not about raves, it is about Christian DJ's getting together and hangin out and having a Bible study/prayer time. You know, a time to fellowship. perhaps you should start a new thread for us to discuss your crave.

Or... whatever. The point is to get Christians involved with the scene to simply hang-out with one another. It's not specifically for prayer and Bible study, but it's cool if it is.

Man I also had this idea of starting some type of Christian Dance worship with other fellow Christians....to offer an alternative to secular clubs where drugs and alcohol are rampant. And You guys are having the same Ideas! which is prettie kool. Im sure it's the work of the holy spirit hehe to gather all of us for this One Vision. To Unite us all together but also to Show others the Love of CHrist through Christian Dance Music.
So. I am planning and 8)is in the works of starting up a Christian Dance Rave Club in Santa Barbara...
yes it will be mainly all Christians just dancing together..no drugs, alcohol...
I will need prayer in this. But I am also praying for wisdom and direction for God to bring the Christian DJ to come DJ at our church....it would be a once a month type of event.
If you or anybody you know would like to come to our church and DJ..to Christian Dance music let me know!
I am currently also figuring out how much it would cost to host a DJ..a christian one...
leme know if you know the costs the church would need to pay for the DJ. I know our church just doesn't have enough funds to pay much.
I originally wanted to find out a way to get in contact with maybe Andy Hunter or Echoing Green's manager to book them to come perform at our church...but they haven't responded back yet..which i am not sure if they will even.
Just let me know! =D
THx! Blessings!
Christina

Hi Christina,
I'm Chris. I guess you could say I am one of the founders of the Southern California Groove Fellowship. Back in 2000, myself along with DJ Pat D, d-dub, and a few other guys who are no longer connected to the scene started this monthly gathering of DJ's, producers, performers, and anybody who had a passion for dance music and a love for the Lord. It went pretty well for a while (almost 4 years). I moved to Kansas in 2004 and things died out rather quickly. The thing that we did (and what most of us at Tastyfresh call "Groove Fellowships") was different than what you are talking about. I will explain what Groove Fellowships are about in a bit but first I want to get into something else.
You are talking about actually putting on a rave/party/event with Christian DJ's. That's totally cool and I will tell you from experience, unless your church has a decent following and you have a great marketing campaign, your event will draw very low numbers. I recommend for your first few events, that you find a local DJ who is willing to do this for free or for VERY LOW pay because you should look at the first few events as ministry and learning experiences. It is extremely rare to have high attendance at any dance event labeled as Christian, especially if it is at a church. Most people just won't come because they think the idea is hokey and the event will suck because there will be no drugs or alcohol. I am telling you this because these are real experiences from us who have put on events at churches and failed at it time and time again. We are veterans in this and have been where you are at right now.
OK now for Groove Fellowships...These are very small gatherings in someones home, usually with pizza, or a BBQ, or some sort of easy snack foods. You should have some CD decks and turntables set up so that those who show up who may want to play some music in the background can. We usually also had a time of Bible study and prayer time, but have found that some nationwide do not do that. I recommend it because it bonds you all together on a spiritual level. The whole point is to bring people together who have the same passion for music and the Lord to network and make new friends. It is NOT something that is widely advertised because you want it to be a small gathering. We had times where we had a lot of people show up and it was more of a disaster than when we had about a dozen people show up. In my opinion, more than 20 is too big.
Whatever you want to do, I hope you have great success. If you plan a big event and have low numbers, do not let that be a deterrent. That is just how this goes. This is why you need to keep at it. Over time you will build a reputation for putting on good parties with good music and you will build numbers. If you ever need any advice or want to talk, my cell number is 785-215-2680. I am available most days in the afternoon.
In Christ
