Actually I missed some of the math... if you have to sell 115 tickets to get your money back, it is the worst plan I've ever heard of along with Oneel
My whole band only had to sell 40 tickets to play with Anthrax

I'll be brief for I'm one of the unknown DJs that can't get a crowd goin. Tronster, if you throw a event, I'M DOWN. Period. I will help with promoting the event (website, myspace.com) if I remember correctly at the last event that he threw most if not all the DJs help break down the set-up. The way I was taught that's just proper DJ protocol. When I spun at other events I didn't have to do that for there were volunteers that were in place. I just think let's come together like what was happening years ago, pull our resources and do it. I know most of us are older, have families, work commitments etc going on in our lives but if we can maybe centralize a location and do this maybe even one time a year thing it would be big. OK go ahead and throw the darts. But know this they may come back at ya. (jokey-joke)

Frankie,
just out of curiosity - youre willing to pay $275.00 up front, sell 55 tickets just to be allowed on stage, get 110 dollars back of your 275.00, and pay $165.00 in the hole to headline a show? .. plus your travel and lodging?
Did you read the business plan?

Yes I did, I'm not agreeing with it, for I believe Tronster is trying to do what he loves but just need to take a different approach to holding a event. I have spun at most of Tronster events and he has said many a time he would have given me more if the numbers were in place, did I get mad no because I know that we (those involved in the CDS if you want to term it) know that some of us are learning by trial and error when we hold such events, for me and others it's not about money anyway. It is to share the gift He has given me, for heads to have a great time in the Lord for the few hours or hour that I or any DJ for that matter spin and to set a path for one who does not know Jesus Christ. I admire that fact that he is seeking a way to throw one for such a time as this.

If you asked me to do that, unless my place really was 'bottom half of the bill',
so....get to work selling those tickets. i think your name was between "DJ nobody" and "TBA".
BWAAHAHAHA!
i on the other hand will expect a limo outside my house,a private jet at detroit metro waiting for me, a buffet bar of mexican food, fridge stocked with caffeine free diet coke, a $10,502 stipend, and 3 roadied to haul my CD crate up to the stage.

For what it's worth the way the Electro Spirit Crew here in Ohio throws shows is much like what others are saying, the co-op way. Everyone shared the burdeon basically. If its 600 bucks to throw a show, everyone 'pitches in', and everyone gets equal amounts back. If we lose out we lose out, if we win we win.
yeah, i think that's the way to make it work how tronster wants it to

Yep - the difference was that we were a collective throwing shows all the time. Like, remember when you came down to play Higher Source in like 2003? We didnt ask you to help pay for sound. If Tron is going to use that business model it wold be good to have a repeating core group who throws shows with a purpose. I dont think i would work with 1 time DJs losing out just to play.
Dude.. Davo.. I thought TBA was a really well known artist because he was always right by me on the bill hahaha. You saying he/she isnt?!?!

WOW!
what a thread...
well i know Tronster and the LAST word i would use to describe him is lazy.
I'm not sure some of you people understand that he HAS thrown events before and does have experience in this sort of thing.
In saying that i do believe mainly what cindy,Davo,etc... are saying about the co op deal. Lets face it and come to reality. In this scene there are only a handfull of dj's that could really be considered a "headliner". So helping out shouldnt be that big of a deal .
In closing let me say...
if ya need a light jockey count me in!!

+2x JBL EON PA
Numark CDN-88 & EM460Kaoss Mixer
Numark Mixstation 2 (back-up / wedding unit)
Sennheiser Wireless Mic
Light Weight Crank-up I-Truss
4x Spin Master III

A variety of other light effects

So that's basically what I have to bring to the table.

Oneel
: Thanks for taking the time to add your thoughts. What's your background in the Christian Dance scene?
I really don't want to get into it all, but I'll point out that Oneel & Fitz just put on a show with Shiloh as the headliner and drew in over 400 people in 'bama. Their podcast also gets about 100,000 downloads a month. Of the regular posters here... Oneel probably has some of the best ties to the secular scene.
Oneel might have come across a bit hard, but he does understand what it takes to really promote an event. He's going to have an article in the next zine issue about this. Nothing too detailed, but it will give some principles to live by.

simple lesson there: shell out the dough for a legit headliner.

Yes, the thread has taken off... I am absorbing it all.
I don't disagree with
Oneel
100%, but don't completely agree. If what
RedSa...
err I mean
Dave Richards
says is true, then I definitely need to look deeper into what he's saying. He could be spot on, just lacking a little tact.
It's all good.
I'm getting married in 18 days, so it won't be until 2007 that I start to seriously ponder these variables in how to make a successful event. Unless I keep getting personal e-mails (like last week) from people who are looking for Christian dance events in the Baltimore area. Last event II Productions threw (in 2004) was the first of breaking even. I'd love to figure a way to throw events that don't drain funds so they could become more frequent. So please keep the thoughts, ideas, and suggestions coming.
Frankie Vibe
and
DJ 9
, thank you for your kind words.
All
who have commented, thanks for taking the time to jot down your thoughts.
