Hey guys,

I was just perusing around Beatport (hunting for free tracks!) and discovered there is a contest to remix a Sarah McLachlan song.  She's singing Noel!

Here is a link to the official rules from Beatport:
http://media.beatport.com/images/marketing/headlines/sarah_contest_rules.html
And here is her site with the downloads (which are on Beatport as well):

I think this is a great opportunity for some aspiring Christian Dj's to worship their savior's birth through song and get some recognition for their skills.

yeah i saw it.

and no offense to Sarah but this is not an appropriate song for remixing.  it just doesn't work.  unless nathan fake does something cool with it.  and nixes the vocals.  i've done some crazy hard remixes and this just does not appeal to me..

I was thinking the same thing. It would work for an ambient or chill mix but the song is already sort of in that vein. I mapped it out and it's like 100-101 bpm.

Although, because it seems like it would be hard to remix; kind of makes it like a challenge! I'm going to listen to the tracks over the weekend and see if anything good comes to mind.

But wOw...she sings awfully purty!

Its called Time Compression Expansion guys! I've finished a preliminary breaks remix... its not all that tho, i'd only rate it 6 or 7/10. It needs something else. I'll post it on my purevolume page [see siggy]

its not the matching up of the vocal tempo that i'm talking about.  its the melody,  doesn't work for a dance tune.  the chord progression is all over the map, i listened to yours and its not a bad effort.  good beats and efex but the vocals.. i dunno.  i ran into a similar problem when Deepsky emailed me and asked Peter and I to remix one of their tunes  a cover of Willie Nelson's, You Were Always On My Mind or whatever the track is called.  what a crappy song to remix.  there's no consistency for the bassline, such a bad mix.  needless to say i think that project is scrapped.
