Two weeks ago someone dumped a kitten off on my wife's best friend's porch at 4:30am.  Cats are my wife and I's favorite animal so naturally we took her in and we totally fell in love with her and vice versa.  Today my wife took her, who we named Suki, to the vet.  She called me crying on the phone and told me the poor little kitten has feline leukemia.

So now we have to isolate her from our 3 other cats for 4-6 weeks.  There is a 33% chance the leukemia will disappear.  Please pray for that 33%.  Its going to be hard keeping her apart from the other cats whom all love each other.  She will be lonely in our basement all alone without her other friends.  If in 4-6 weeks the leukemia is still there, she will have to be isolated for the rest of her life, or given to someone without cats while she lives out the rest of her short life SadSadSad  I would never have her put down until she began to suffer.  I dont have the heart to do it.

Please pray the leukemia would subside...  pray that we can take good care and comfort her... and lastly, please pray that I would find some inner peace to not want to completely obliterate a person without the heart to take care of an animal and dump it.

Thanks brothers and sisters.  Cry

First of all you guys are too good for taking the cat in.  I know what it's like our cat had Breast Cancer.  So with all that being said I will be praying for you guys and your new kitty.

There's a feline leukemia vaccine you can get for your other cats, isn't there?  I'm pretty sure there is.  My cats were offered that, I believe, when I took them in, but I didn't figure my cats would be around other cats that much, or outdoors for that matter.

Then again, after googling this, the cat with FeLV may be susceptible to other things that your other cats are immune, too.  Hmmmm, sticky situation.

I have two cats, too!  They're the apple of my eye   Tongue

I am a force to be reckoned with, and a piece of work.  God broke that mold.  But alas, I am also a tool.  Ha!

Yeah our cats get that vaccine every year at their annual checkup but I dont believe that it makes them immune to the disease.  Our vet said we still had to seperate them out.  i think living in constant contact with a cat who has it might be pushing it for the vaccine.  It's probably like most disease vaccines...  having the vaccine doesnt mean you wanna lick someone else with the disease (like cats do) Smiley
